Today we’d like to introduce you to Max Weisman.
Hi Max , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I studied communications (with a history minor) at Temple University, graduating in 2014. Following graduation, I worked in professional politics for several years, then at an advocacy-based PR firm, and am now the Communications Director for Philadelphia City Councilmember Isaiah Thomas. I have always found fulfillment in storytelling, organizing, and helping others achieve their visibility and messaging goals. After a decade of refining my skills and building my network, I started my side business: Halom Strategies (Halom being the Hebrew word for “dream). I help leaders and organizations hone their message, brand their mission, prepare for a public appearance, and take themselves to the next level. As the name suggests, I aim to help people or businesses project their dream version of themselves to the world and turn the vision into a reality.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has been mostly smooth. I have confidence in my skills and vision because offering my services to clients has been easy and enjoyable. The difficulties have been the business side of starting a company. With very little business experience, setting up systems for accepting payments and paying taxes was challenging. I also value the client experience and relationship, so setting affordable prices built on trust was challenging to research and set. Now that the business is active and growing, navigating it has been an enjoyable challenge.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Halom Strategies specializes in personal branding. Whether a tailored media training, a personal (or group) branding session, professional coaching, or ghostwriting – I use my 10+ years of private sector, non-profit, and government communications experience and relationships to help bring my clients to the next level. I often tell people that if you’ve expanded your team, gotten a promotion, had a viral moment, or something else that has raised you – I can help keep it going and make it sustainable. Halom is different than other consultants because every plan is crafted to fit the client at that specific moment. It’s most important to me that a client feels comfortable and confident. And since Halom is a side business and not my full-time job, I can afford to keep my rates affordable, flexible, and highly competitive.
What matters most to you? Why?
As I train my clients, my reputation is important to me. I want clients to tell their friends and coworkers that they had a positive experience, felt taken care of with their goals met, and had fun learning a new skill. My reputation and experience are much more important to me than making money. In the world of branding and media training, it requires a great deal o vulnerability so it feels important that the client feels comfortable and understands the process we will go through together.
