Today we’d like to introduce you to Marita Karpetta.
Hi Marita, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am 24 years old currently living in my country – Cyprus. Since I was little all i wanted was to become an actress and be in movies, but I was also very shy to a point that I could not even speak in front of people. My acting teachers were doubting that I could make it as an actress because of how shy I was. But I am an extremely stubborn person so I never listened to anything negative. When it was the time to apply for university I really wanted to go to Glasgow, and one person from my acting school told me to not apply as I was not ready. So, I left the school and worked some monologues myself, and auditioned for a private acting school in Glasgow – Acting Coach Scotland, and got accepted. It was my first time leaving abroad but I was doing everyday what I love, and loved it. I overcame everything and I managed to act in front of people and even got very good feedback. After I finished the school, I became an Actress/Video Specialist in TheSoul Publishing – one of the largest online media companies worldwide, where I played the character Grace in their multi million views Youtube channels. In there I met some incredible people with same dreams and goals to become artists either dancers/musicians/videographers/actors. In there I managed to become fully comfortable in front of the camera and again was getting very good comments about my acting. After 2 years I decided to leave the company, and now I am doing Affiliate Marketing in a different industry which is not really my thing. But I am still a part of different music clips/short films etc. and I also got my first reward as ”Best Female Model” in Cyprus Fashion Film Festival. I am now trying to get representation from an agent so I can focus on my acting career and get back to the path of doing what I love.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was not a smooth road at all but my willingness and belief made it much smoother. I overcame anxiety to achieve being as confident and as comfortable as I am now as an actress. Also many people would say that acting is not a profitable career and that so many people as auditioning and that are not really chances to take big roles etc. but I am this kind of person that I believe that everything is possible if you want it and believe it enough. But of course I had my doubting thoughts.
I went through panic attacks before going on stage, but then it just went away because i managed to fight it.
Now my biggest challenge is that because in my town there are no acting opportunities, and by growing up I need a job to survive, but doing a job outside of your career path and doing everyday something you to not love especially being in front of the computer for 9 hours, for me this is very demotivating and I am struggling to find the will and motivation after work to focus on my acting. But I am positive that I will find my way, I am also building up a UGC creator career on the side where i got recently many brand collaborations for skincare/makeup which I am very happy about.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a professional actress holing a professional diploma on Stage and Screen Acting from Acting Coach Scotland. I am known as an Actress/Content Creator, even through at the moment I am working as a Brand Manager in an Affiliate Marketing company in the Financial Industry, this is only temporary because it does not really match who I am. I am a very creative person, I like to act, create, be spontaneous, and I really give my all everytime I am in a production. This is what I am known for, very passionate about acting and being in productions.
At the moment where I am in Cyprus there are not many acting opportunities, and if there are, its unpaid. I still go for it just because I love it and I want to support and help other artists too. But at the same time as my full time job, I create beauty/skincare UGC content. I am very proud that I managed to collaborate with many big brands, some of my favourites too.
But the thing I am proud the most, is that I believed in myself, in my acting talent and I overcame my anxiety and shyness, and managed to get my first award as the Best Female Model in the Cyprus Fashion Film Festival 2024. I started getting recognition, and the comments and feedback I receive about my acting skills are truly amazing which is something extremely important for me. It proofs me that I really do have talent and its just a motivation to keep it up, and that I am not just a person with too much confidence, what I see in myself, I have made people see it too and I am very grateful for it.
What I think sets me apart from others is how stubborn I am, the huge willingness, hard work and belief I have. Also my mindset, I understand that challenges and failure is part of success so it never really brings me down, everytime something is coming up like a failure or a challenge, I get even more stubborn to succeed and never give up until I make it, which is what I still do with acting and I will not stop until I get to where I want to be. I am also a very patient person which really helps everything.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Patience, will, very stubborn, and belief are for me the most important things towards success. Because instead of crying and giving up, I am getting the urge to fight for success but at the same time i am very patient towards it.
Belief and will is also a big part, you need to believe that you really can achieve your goal no matter how many other people are trying to achieve the same.
