Today we’d like to introduce you to Mario Durán Araujo
Hi Mario , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I began my career at a young age, very inspired with fantasy and action movies as well as dramatic and thoughtful ones. Over the course of six years I’ve worked in many independent movies, and have received international acclaim for my work on live action and stop motion films. Most recently I got the World Class Creator Award at the Barroco International Museum at Puebla, Mexico.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When I was starting out, money was definitely the main struggle, and I had to keep a very tight budget for my first projects and even had to put money from my own pocket in order to finish the projects with the dignity that they deserved.
I also had a hard time getting my first clients, as I had a very small portfolio back then, I spent way too much time looking for potencial clients, and many times failing to convince them with my offers.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a film director, but I also usually write and produce my own projects. I’m known mainly for my stop motion animation work animating Marvel Legends figures. And the work I’m most proud of is a 3 hour fan film stop motion movie about the Avengers. I assembled a group of 70 cast and crew members and we made a very intense and dramatic film with lots of action pieces. It’s still yet to come out, but it should be out for the audience in 2026 when it finishes it’s festival run.
I think what sets me apart from other filmmakers is the fact that I love lengthy character driven stories with a lot of action and drama while keeping a good pacing so the audience doesn’t feel bored.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Being in the movie industry is hard and exhausting, but if you really love it you’ll enjoy every second of it.
