Today we’d like to introduce you to Mallory
Hi Mallory, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve been singing since she can remember. I got her first solo in church at 4 and the rest was history.
When I decided to start performing, my family didn’t realize how serious I was, but soon realized I was on a mission. In high school, I started working with local artists, which introduced me to industry veteran, Papa Reu, studio sessions, and writing.
Despite authoring my first full song at 18, I didn’t release it and, after a battle with depression, I decided on a more traditional career path. I went on to graduate college in 4 years with a 3.14 GPA, then founded The Premier Benefit & Birthday Bash, celebrating my birthday annually and sponsoring therapy sessions.
As I built my post-grad life, I realized that though I tried to leave music, it never left me. I’d been performing around Houston and people started asking when my album was coming out. I took this as a sign that my gift wouldn’t be ignored.
In 2019, I released my debut single, “1 Hunned,” a relatable Summer jam. Since then, I’ve released diverse music that’s compared to Chris Brown, Beyoncé, and H.E.R. I’ve worked with industry vets and up-and-coming artists like Sunnitharapper, opened festivals, performed at major league sporting events, performed in multiple cities with Sofar Sounds, and much more. I don’t plan on stopping.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not. I’m the type of person who just wants to work and progress, but it seems like something’s always in the way of getting to the level of work I want to put in. When you stand on your morals and ideals, unfortunately, that can slow growth and opportunities in the entertainment industry. I’ve been performing since I was 4 and singing on stage since I was 12. Yet to this day I’m told I don’t have the respect I could have because I don’t do enough. On the flip side, I’m told I’m doing too much, and people praise my talents until it comes down to booking me or working together. At that point, a lot of people I’ve been around for years, or those who’ve expressed interest in teaming up, go silent.
However, I’ve learned that though it may take longer for me to get to where I want to be, I just have to find avenues outside of the common ones. God’s timing and plan for me are just that: for me, so while it’s frustrating, I can’t take the path others take. That path isn’t mine.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m is a singer-songwriter, recording artist, and performer. I’ve worked with legends as well as up-and-coming artists, I’ve sang at major league athletic events, I’ve performed at festivals, and I’ve had shows around the country.
What sets me apart though, is my brand. I don’t just casually walk on stage, sing, and leave. Whether it’s for a private/intimate event or a festival, I put on a quality show. I carefully curate set lists for a specific mood, plan out wardrobe to enhance that mood, and build crowd engagement during the show. You have a good time when I’m on stage and whatever you consider the best part about live music or concerts can be found in my performances (whenever appropriate).
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Hands down, determination and perseverance.
