Today we’d like to introduce you to Mai Alina
Hi Mai, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I believe it was around the age of 11 I knew I wanted to have my own business or even be a content creator. When I was younger I used to make drawings and sell them to my classmates at school. I’ve always strived to be the best at anything I did.
It wasn’t until my sophomore year of high school that I decided to make beauty and skincare products. When I first started out, I only sold lipglosses but that quickly grew into lashes, face wash, moisturizer, etc.
As far as content creation, I would do these incredible make up looks and it boosted up my Instagram following to 13k. Unfortunately, my original page I had since 7th grade got taken down. I had to create a new one in 2022 but I took it as a sign of starting fresh and entering a new era.
In 2020 right before lockdown, I started posting on my YouTube channel. I had three videos up before I grew inconsistent. I took a few down but kept one. I do plan on posting more videos soon because overall, I love making videos and seeing people engaged in the content I put out.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One thing I will say that I struggle with is consistency. I tend to get off track with posting and promoting my business or content. I found that posting or creating a video for Youtube or a post for my Instagram or even a tik tok video does not have to be as difficult as it seems. Ultimately I’m doing what I like and I find joy in that. Writing down ideas so that I won’t forget is another thing I like to do as well.
Another thing is, I had to stop comparing my views and sales to other content creators or businesses I was seeing online. Everyone has their own timing and worrying about what others do, only takes focus away from me and my goals.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
For awhile I was known for making lipglosses and creating these magnificent make up looks. Once I expanded the products I sold, my business got even better.
Outside of MaiiSkiin, I would say I’m known for my “aesthetic” bedroom and great Instagram photos. I recently moved so I have been in the process of doing a room transformation (stay tuned for a YouTube video of that) and posting a few snippets on TikTok.
I also got back into art and painting. I plan on creating separate social media platforms for my art very soon. Art has been something I’ve done for as long as I can remember. It’s a way to visually express myself and in the end, have a beautiful “masterpiece” .
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I have been very lucky to have family, friends, and loved ones who support me in my goals. When I feel as though I’m nit where I want to be, they reamind me of where I came from and how I should be proud of where I am now.
