Today we’d like to introduce you to Madisyn Banks
Hi Madisyn, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I hail from the heart of the South, born and raised in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to be precise. Growing up in a single-parent household instilled in me a deep sense of resilience and optimism from a young age. With my mother often working long hours to make ends meet, I found solace and purpose in staying busy, nurturing a passion for creativity and the arts that has remained with me throughout my life.
From early childhood, I gravitated towards artistic expression, finding joy in dance, music, and acting. I immersed myself in various creative outlets, participating in organizations like the Tuscaloosa Children’s Theatre, Actor’s Charitable Theater, The Alabama Choir School, Alabama Blues Project, and Dancing Stars of Tuscaloosa. Alongside my artistic pursuits, I maintained a strong academic record, actively engaging in academic distinction programs that fueled my intellectual curiosity.
By the time I graduated from high school, I had already begun to lay the groundwork for my career in social media marketing and public relations, leveraging the connections I had forged within these creative spaces. Working alongside professional dancers, recording artists, and radio/TV personalities, I gained invaluable experience and insight into the world of media and entertainment.
However, it was during my time as a first-generation student at Clark Atlanta University, a historically Black college and university (HBCU), that my career truly flourished. The vibrant culture and supportive community at Clark Atlanta provided me with the platform and resources to further develop my skills and pursue my professional aspirations with newfound vigor.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
From an outsider’s perspective, it might seem like smooth sailing, but behind the scenes lies a story of unwavering determination. Since the age of 18, I’ve shouldered the responsibility of financial independence. Juggling full-time work as a publicist while pursuing my degree at Clark Atlanta University amidst the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic required an extraordinary level of commitment. Balancing the demands of both work and academia forced me to mature quickly, navigating adulthood while peers my age were still finding their footing or had support.
Despite the exhaustion that often accompanies my endeavors, I wouldn’t alter a single chapter of my journey. I am currently pursuing a Master of Communication Management at the University of Southern California, along with laying the groundwork for my startup public relations agency, Moodhouse, LLC. I find myself stretched thin with time-consuming commitments. Yet, these ventures have afforded me invaluable opportunities to collaborate with renowned corporations and household brands and travel the world, an achievement that surpasses my wildest dreams.
As a member of Gen-Z, I’m humbled by the trajectory of my life thus far, with deep gratitude to God for guiding my path. Each step forward, though laden with challenges, propels me towards a future that promises even greater fulfillment and success.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
When asked about my role, I often quip, “I’m a jack of all trades. I do everything.” Yet, the simplicity of that statement belies its truth. At my core, I’m a publicist, but my professional palette spans far beyond that singular label. I seamlessly transition between roles as a stylist, makeup artist, photographer, videographer, content editor, writer, and creative director. Additionally, I serve as a mentor and influencer, among other hats I wear in this multifaceted industry.
My reputation precedes me as someone who dives into tasks headfirst, armed with a can-do attitude and an unwavering commitment to excellence. For those who know me, my presence is synonymous with being fully engaged in the present moment, pouring my heart and soul into every endeavor. I firmly believe that I’ve been divinely appointed for this path, tasked with utilizing my gifts and talents to effect positive change and inspire the next generation in my unique way.
What distinguishes me is my unwavering sense of self and genuine passion for my craft. From the outset, I’ve embraced who I am and relished in the work that I do. It’s a journey of self-discovery and growth, but throughout it all, I remain steadfast in my understanding of my purpose and the evolution of my abilities.
What’s next?
I tend to keep my future plans close to the chest until they come to fruition. However, I’ll share a glimpse: graduation is on the horizon, and my business will take center stage. Both my personal and professional spheres are poised for elevation. I’m eagerly anticipating the unfolding of God’s plans and the unexpected detours along the way. Stay tuned for what lies ahead!
