Today we’d like to introduce you to Louie Pello
Hi Louie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started rapping at 14, freestyling on YouTube beats in the whip with my friends drinking brews and comically sized blunts. We all loved rap and hip-hop, it was 2010 and lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa , Mac Miller , Juicy J , Gucci Mane, Don Trip & Starlito , Kid Cudi and Drake Ruled the Music Landscape at the time. Each of us taking turns doing a terrible job at keeping a flow but wow was it funny to watch your friend blasted out his mind try to rap coherent bars. We would search for hours at school for beats, save the ones we liked and bring our finds for the week to our weekend hangouts. We did this for a long time and usually the flows and lyrics were terrible but occasionally somebody would nail it . The stars aligned and the beat slapped perfectly , we would all lose our shit when it happened. I mean really lose it too , like something from a football homecoming pep crowd
. Over time I started really trying to come up with better and better lines . I would listen to any type of rap and hip-hop I could find and count syllables other rappers used in their lyrics. I started writing lyrics out on paper of all my favorite songs constantly studying how my heroes were delivering the words to all of us. A fun hobby like interest I had with my drunken friends started turning into an obsession. I delve deeper into the music the more I discovered and to be honest it changed my entire outlook on life and who I was as a human. I had always loved music before the age of 14 , I got my first guitar at 11 yrs old. I had grown up around some very classic all time hits from my parents but it was all country and rock music . My friends opened a door to rap and hip-hop that I’m still thankful for many years later . It was probably a year after we had started freestyling before everyone and myself included started noticing I had gotten weirdly good at rapping in the whip with the homies , really good . 15 years later the obsession still burns brighter then ever . I’ve done 100’s of shows and met people along the way that have changed me on a profound level. I’ve felt what it’s like to have a crowd scream your tracks with you. Ive written 1000’s of song and I have more coming. Life is crazy
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No not at all and I doubt it ever will be , it would crazy if it was smooth right? I’ve had 2 kids since those drunk freestyle days and many different chapters that have kept the pages turning. Just learning to be yourself and what authenticity is on a deep level is challenging not including the financial dedication it takes to be able to take opportunities as they come . It’s a hard road out here but that’s where the obsession takes over and soon these rough patches become minor obstacles in the pursuit of realizing your dreams.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I just focus on putting my words out into the world and hope they get delivered to the right person that needs to hear them . I think I specialize in concept and audio aesthetics. I love albums , a story or theme that is the driving force of a project. I really try to make a project feel like a event or occasion , a moment in time.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
I wish I knew at 14-15 years old that music is a real career and a actual reality you can make happen if you are dedicated and open to growth. my advice would have to be to just let the fear go . Drop the fear and let the adult take the wheel so you can become the greatest version of yourself.
