Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Kosior
Hi Kyle, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am originally from Saskatchewan, Canada and also briefly lived in Michigan and Manitoba, Canada. I attended the University of Regina (Saskatchewan, Canada) and then worked for a few years before moving on to the University of North Dakota School of Law in Grand Forks, ND. I settled in Grand Forks after law school, where I married Amanda and started work with the United States Hockey League.
After a few years with the USHL, I moved on to Veritas Hockey (a hockey management agency) and have been there ever since. In addition to the work with Veritas, I also serve as a consultant to JLG Architects, a firm specializing in the design of hockey arenas, and teach a sports business class at the University of North Dakota.
In my free time I like to coach my two sons in baseball and hockey, do a little traveling, and hang out with our friends. I’ve also started (along with Corey Irion and Kelly Moreland) a hockey-parent podcast called North Dakota After Dark. We are about to complete our first season and we are really enjoying having the show and meeting our guests.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it sure hasn’t been smooth! There have been a host of setbacks, both personal and professional, but with the benefit of time they all seem like learning opportunities rather than anything too drastic.
I have the benefit of having a nice wife and family, as well as some good friends, to help right the ship should things go awry.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We started North Dakota After Dark about a year ago and have really enjoy the creative medium of podcasting, or video podcasting to be exact.
Our group had always thought it would be funny to record some of our late night conversations at hockey tournaments and we finally took the next step in doing so.
So far we have been very fortunate to have an impressive and eclectic guest list from all over the world. We are very much looking forward to Season 2!
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love the people! We are fortunate to have so many good friends in town and, consequently, have an active social life in town. For a small city, we also have many amenities both in town and close to town that make Grand Forks a good place to live and raise a family.
As for downsides, I think there could be an effort made to improve the looks of some of the major corridors in town. I believe the mayor is working on this initiative and I think it would make the city “show” better.
