Today we’d like to introduce you to Kemberli Clark
Hi Kemberli, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My story is one of how God will work in the most unexpected ways! In 2018, I went through a devastating life experience that left me heart broken and financially unstable. It was suggested to me to start a side job cleaning to make ends meet. Cleaning was the farthest thing from my mind but it was convenient to do outside of my full time job.
As I began to gain clients for cleaning, it was challenging putting myself out there but if you know me everything I do has to be with excellence! I made a promo video of what I was doing and began to share it. It was the start of things changing.
My full time job was great and things seemed to be going well but little did I know the 2020 that the COVID-19 pandemic would change it all for me; for the GOOD! I was told my job was fine and I had nothing to worry about, but by the end of March I was laid off. I remember a peace came over me and I felt so secure that it was all going to be okay. It was!
I am a woman of faith and that will always come first in my life. I began to seek the Lord on what to do next and He gently told me to push full time with my business. I used the time and resources I had from being laid off to launch my website, get certifications, purchase needed supplies, and create business cards & flyers.
It has not been an easy road but it has enlarged me as a business woman and servant of God. The joy I get from changing atmospheres with my team is irreplaceable!
I never imagined myself running my own business but all of the skillsets that I had acquired in my working career truly prepared me for this. It showed how every job I ever worked taught me something for a bigger plan. I’m able to serve my team of cleaners and clients with love, joy, professionalism, excellence, and wisdom because of everything the Lord has taken me through.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been far from smooth! It came with growing pains, learning curves, and setbacks.
One learning curve in particular was understanding leadership. Leadership is not being bossy or controlling, or even micromanaging but it’s about serving your team. It’s about sending one message or vision to multiple members effectively, and bringing everyone to their best.
In the beginning I struggled to lead well. I had worked for companies in my past and never held a leadership position. I had always desired it but never seemed to attain a role or position in that magnitude. So having a team of cleaners wasn’t easy. I didn’t know how to lead, train, or retain cleaners.
It truly took me working on myself to grow in this area. Through wise counsel, prayer, and failures I learned wisdom. I learned how to be a good leader by seeing what a bad leader is. It was humbling but there is no quit in me! After firing many, cleaners quitting, and no one applying I took the opportunity to study what I was doing wrong and implement processes, core values, policies and procedures. I implemented them with myself and developed them with time. I now have a team of 9 cleaners going strong and enjoy their job and work environment! Our turnover rate is not a revolving door anymore, we have cleaners that have stayed for 3+ years.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am the owner and Founder of Multi-Essentials Cleaning Services here in the Southeast Texas area. We specialize in Deep cleaning, Basic cleaning, Disinfectant Fogging, and Office cleaning.
We are known for our integrity and caring spirit. For that I am most proud of! Our character exudes trustworthiness. We have maintained most of our clients for 4+ years and have succeeded through word of mouth because of it. Our clients love how we change the atmosphere in their space!
We’ve literally had clients let us know that when they came to their space after we were done that it was a shift and a light feeling there. How amazed they were With whatever we did to leave it that way. That comes from within, not from products and chemicals.
What were you like growing up?
I am the baby of five and a twin. I had no real responsibilities of leadership but loved my older siblings. I admired them a lot! They were always so bold, creative, but I was the baby sister they all had to look out for and take care of. It left me with the complex that I needed to prove I was big enough to do things. I was very competitive, tomboy-ish, curious, and well behaved.
I did what was asked of me with excellence to prove that I was enough, hoping to be taken serious like my older sisters aka “the big girls”, but I couldn’t understand times and seasons. This complex caused me to always want to be on their level and when I wouldn’t get the acknowledgment or responsibility I desired I would shut down and isolate myself. This followed me all the way until I gave my life to the Lord as a young adult.
I would seek for validation in so many things that were unprofitable for me. My competitiveness turned into envy and a bad habit of comparing myself to others. This led to many insecurities.
I’m so grateful to God for showing me my worth and purpose. It changed my very personality to appreciate what everyone brings to the table. I began to understand that there is a time and season for everything under the sun. If the opportunity wasn’t granted to me it was because it was not my season yet. I learned how to rejoice and celebrate others during their times of increase or advancement.
