Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Brock
Hi Kayla, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started working in social media during the pandemic but I was always working in magazine publications and broadcast as a journalist specifically focused on travel. Through university, where I took a couple photography classes, I gained a love for taking photos. I also just really enjoyed capturing the moment. I started a photography business in 2019 where I provided portraits and event photography. It all just felt like a natural progression. I was enjoying what I was doing and I loved that I could be creative and meet new people.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been easy! The hardest part is probably maintain a solid clientele. A lot of the time you’re going back and forth over pricing and someone will leave you on read or they just can’t afford it. Totally fine, of course, but it can get discouraging when it comes to your product. Even working in social media, it can be quite taxing. Your brain never quit shuts off and now that social is used for news it’s a 24/7 cycle. Being consistent can be hard.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a social media manager meaning that I help brands with their social accounts whether it be Tik Tok, Instagram, Facebook etc. I also do copywriting and content creation mainly within travel and lifestyle. I am most proud of being able to attending conference as a speaking and sharing what I’ve learned over the years of being in the media field. Nothing feels better than sharing your gifts and people telling you how valuable it was to them. I think what sets me apart is my authenticity. I want to be realistic and honest. Even in my photography, my work is simple and hardly retouched. I just want to capture an authentic moment in a photograph, but I will also add my dedication. Whether it be my work, friends, or family I am always dedicated to what it is I am doing.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is to put it out there no matter what. Sometimes you get in your head or feel like an imposter but if it makes me happy then it shouldn’t matter. Being brave enough to put your work out there and honoring a commitment to yourself is worth it rather than giving into fear. If something comes to end, there is always a new beginning.
