Today we’d like to introduce you to Katheryn Labosky.
Hi Katheryn, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started early when working a full-time job. I always loved sales and communication, especially the written word. I became noticed online and offline for my writing and started selling sales copy and content. It progressed slowly and I was able to do it full-time now for twenty years, and am now a consultant focusing on content strategy for other businesses as well as non-profits and for-profits seeking grants from the government.
I especially enjoy what can only be called “contentious issues” where problems need to be remedied as I adore problem-solving. It’s partially financial but also altruistic. I do write quite a bit on topics regarding mental health on platforms devoted to this and have amassed followings for this. It is just an interest of mine. I like to balance the workload between projects to keep enjoying what I do. I am an extreme extrovert and will go the last mile for all my clients as I enjoy the interaction with others and network quite a bit.
I have become quite good friends with some clients and that is an absolute bonus. When not working on the business I am always writing my pieces as it is a release and a pleasure for me. I feel I was “born to write.”
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No business is smooth. There are ups and downs and there were plenty in my case. Some of the struggles were financial as businesses can be feast or famine. Some were personal as I also raised children on my own. But I am easygoing and try not to dwell on the “downs” but rather the “ups.”
When in a down period I simply work harder and the past year with inflation has had me doing just that. I grew up with an ex-military captain who then started his own accounting business so financials are always a priority and I do excel at budgeting and not buying unnecessary items (although I cave in at times). Making time for my family pushed the business to the side many times but I will always put them first as money can always be made but you cannot replace your loved ones
One of the main challenges especially in the beginning was making others believe I could make this work as it is not a tangible type of offering. But now, others do believe as the passage of time proved it can work.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I write extensively and am published. I also love solving problems for others and this is what I have become lately most known for. The need for assistance in acquiring funding for businesses and non-profits can be difficult and I have assisted others in acquiring this. I do have an altruistic quality and enjoy helping others and my laid-back personality also sets me apart. Pressure does not rattle me and I stay organized and focused on each project I handle.
Much of what I do now is consulting and even coaching others as the pressures of running a business or a non-profit can be enormous. My written work is well received and I am proud of that as I pour my heart and soul out via words.
What were you like growing up?
I was as outgoing as I am now. A bit of a mischief-maker.
I loved sports but also reading and writing and was reading by the age of two.
My parents bought me an entire set of encyclopedias to read that is how voracious I was about learning. I loved school and learning and still focus on learning and reading to improve my knowledge and become a more well-rounded person. I believe everyone is always a work in progress no matter what the age.
I was a straight-A student, a “dork” if you will, and graduated college Magna Cum Laude.
