Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Oberti

Hi Jonathan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.

I always knew I wanted to be in fashion and design, just didn’t know how I could get there.
To earn some extra cash, I would work weekends at my dad’s optical shop in North Miami. It was there where I recognized that eyewear was no longer just a medical device, it was a fashion accessory and I could channel my love for fashion and design through a pair of glasses. For the next two months, I drew eyewear designs in my room every day and eventually got prototypes made with no idea of what to do next. My designs were there but I needed to learn the business of eyewear. What better way than to work for all the eyewear brands I looked up to? That’s what I did for the next 10 years, always with the knowledge that one day I would start my own when I felt I was ready to. I started with sales and eventually morphed into a more creative role for some of the brands. Once I realized my ideas were being recognized I knew that I was ready to start my own project.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?

Of course not. Starting a brand and being able to call it a success is extremely difficult, but when you believe, anything is possible.
From a brand I was working with attempting to take legal action so Tejesta wouldn’t happen to having to buy out a business partner and everything in between, it’s been a bumpy road but the brand wouldn’t be where its at today without those lessons.
