Today we’d like to introduce you to Jahmeir Reed
Jahmeir, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
A few years ago, I attended an open mic where my friend performed some songs he had been working on. The show went great; he did well, and I met new and talented artists.
Almost everyone asked me the same question: “What do you do?” I sat there, twiddling my thumbs, unable to give them an answer. I didn’t do anything creative, and I didn’t know what I wanted to do. At the time, I was studying the artist Andy Warhol and noticed how he always carried his film camera with him. Growing up I was always fascinated with taking pictures although I never used a camera. So I made the conscious decision to try photography, I even picked up a photography class that fall semester to learn as much as possible.
Within the same year, I started taking photos of almost everything and everyone. What helped me the most was having two talented friends, who supported me and opened up doors that I wouldn’t have gotten by myself,
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
A challenge I’ve been dealing with is learning to maintain my relationships. Most of the time, I am engrossed in editing or working on another shoot, making it difficult to keep up with friends and family. As an artist, I become so focused on my work that I sometimes neglect my social connections. Over the past few months, I’ve made an effort to prioritize spending time with friends and family, but there are still some I haven’t been able to connect with. Some understand my situation, while others may not. Being an artist isn’t easy, and striking a work-life balance becomes even more challenging when you have people you care about. The best thing I can do is communicate with those closest to me and try my best to be there for them.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am best known for my photography and graphic design work in Philadelphia. My expertise lies in fashion photography and shooting marketing campaigns. Creating campaigns is a new venture for me, combining my photography and graphic design skills.
I distinguish myself from other digital artists through my unique approach to coloring and grading images. My editing style can be described as a blend of 80’s film and Andy Warhol paintings. It may seem like an odd combination, but it makes perfect sense to me and is reflected in my photos.
I’m most proud of the fact that I’m still creating no matter what comes my way. I think most artists give up because they realize how hard doing this is. I am fortunate enough to be able to keep growing in my field and be handed opportunities to work with amazing people.
Any big plans?
Soon, I plan to create more video content, whether it’s short or long-form. However, one achievement on my bucket list is directing and writing a film, most likely a comedy or horror flick. I started writing ideas for this last summer and im excited to fully realize the script!
