Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacob Rountree.
Hi Jacob , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Born in Albuquerque NM, Raised in Spokane Washington, Jacob found music early on from learning classical piano at the age of 7. By 12 years old Jacob began prioritizing his musical focus on the guitar. After multiple severe injuries from competitive snow skiing in his late teens, Rountree used his recovery time to break the barrier of music simply being a weekly duty, to a therapeutic passion necessary for daily fulfillment, he became obsessed. Rountree maintained his frequent gigging schedule all through earning his mechanical engineering degree which brought him to the state of Montana. Now a decade into performing, Rountree has released three albums, performed with the likes of Future Islands, Rayland Baxter, Paul Cauthen, John Cragie and more, resulting in tours from Seattle to the Virgin Islands.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
While from a zoomed out perspective, the growth seems linear and smooth, self employment/ music is rarely that. The process has always been a battle of stability and passion. Rountree has been a full time performing musician for nearly 7 years now and has seen tremendous growth from working with band members of his idols, to performing off the mainland, however with the ever changing music industry becoming more based on social media, an ever growing slew of apps to maintain, Rountree is still learning the balance between making a living and striving for exposure, often times very different pursuits.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
From playing percussive instruments and drums, to guitar, didgeridoo, piano and bass, Rountree has become an avid performer and producer, getting to be hands on the entire process of performing, booking, recording, producing ,mixing and beyond.
His unique approach to indie folk production is captivating and profound, all while having high intellect presented in his lyrics ranging from topics of quantum physics to the human condition.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
Growing up in the Inland Northwest allowed for a perfect balance of city and nature. Some of my favorite memories include spending time at a 200 year old cabin in the woods of North Idaho, allowing for ultimate freedom, be that biking, hiking, fort building etc. I feel grateful to be the last generation who experienced a natural childhood without a phone.
