Today we’d like to introduce you to Elvin Catley
Hi Elvin, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
How my story started…well I kind of fell into photography because of skateboarding both are very aligned and I wanted to take pictures and videos of my friends skateboarding and having fun.
As I still skateboard and take photographs today, My focus on photography has changed slightly.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Smooth road!? No never, if life gave me a smooth road I don’t think I would be the person I am today and I am grateful for what I had accomplished with the struggles.
The biggest struggles I faced was Financial and not thinking I could ever be a professional artist.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
The medium I practice is film/digital photography. I dabble is all sorts of niches but the few I’m addicted to are street and documentary.
What I mean by street, is the traditional street photography. Of people, places and things that are apart of daily life. Different cultures and just the human experience. I find it really fascinating.
I don’t know if I’m known for anything really. Maybe one day i will be remembered by my photographs
One thing I am proud of is, the friends I surround myself with. I feel that we do a lot for our own community in photography to uplift and inspire others to want to shoot or meet with their own friends to do monthly photography critiques.
What sets me apart from others? Wow these are hard questions. I never really think about stuff like that so I’m not really sure how to answer that one
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
AI, 1000% it’s moving in that direction.
Even with film photography on the rise AI and the technology behind it will probably change art and photography forever
