Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Hunn
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve been drawing as long as I can remember, from primary school, where I was making delightful drawings of spindly fairies, to University, where I chose to study Illustration in the hope of making drawing into my lifelong career. I started an Etsy shop under the name DustandMarbles in 2020 and since then have been selling my own sticker, bookmarks and prints alongside a variety of animated and illustrated commissions.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I don’t think freelancing is ever a smooth journey! It’s a bit of a rollercoaster where sometimes I’m juggling multiple projects followed by months of pottering about on behind the scene bits. I freelance alongside my secondary job so it’s always a challenge balancing out my time between the two and something I’m forever improving on.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an illustrator and animator. I mostly work digitally on my iPad but in-between it all I grab some felt tips and scribble in my sketchbook. I love video games being a particular fan of dystopias with a vintage aesthetic, such as the Bioshock and Fallout series, and that’s something that frequently comes through in my work. I’ve been able to connect with fans who share my interest through my drawings and it’s always a delight to find others as passionate about these games as I am! A particular proud moment for me was working with game analysis and reviewer “Boulder Punch”. He created a series of videos reviewing the Bioshock game series and commissioned me to create intros for them, I had so much fun interpreting some of my favourite game moments and it was a great opportunity to develop my style.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I’ve always been a bit of a chatterbox with those close to me and growing up I would either be creating, talking, or rambling away while I was creating! I’ve vivid memories of building lego castles or sculpting plasticine food all while my grandparents sat and listened to me natter away. I loved reading as a child (something I’ve recently been getting back into) and was always coming up with my own stories, I’ve a million notebooks full of story notes and drawing the people in those stories was a big part of what got me drawing in the first place.
