Today we’d like to introduce you to Dillon Bentlage
Hi Dillon, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started writing and producing movies when I was 20 years old. I remember hanging out with my life-long friend, Brian Reilly, and asking him if he would like to write a script together. We are big fans of the Coen Brothers, so we decided to write our script under the pseudonym, The Karen Twins (We could never have guessed how that name would age lol). The name derives from our mothers, who met when they were 11 years old, and were both named Karen. I’ve known Brian longer than my sister; I met him when I was 2 weeks old.
We never ended up making our first script, and I don’t think we ever will, but we quickly starting producing shorts together and pivoted into a production company. In 2021, we made the company legitimate, and since then have continued to grow with more films each year. Today we have produced multiple shorts, an international web-series, and two features, with another feature on the way. We have over 40 selections at minor and major film festivals and over 20 awards.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It depends on your definition of smooth. An element of film making is being able to roll with the punches. You prep for everything, and adjust for anything; nothing ever goes exactly to plan. That being said, I do feel that we’ve always been moving in the right direction. Our production value, budget, and ambition grows with every film. Not every project is a mile leap forward, but it’s important to remember that even an inch in the right direction is still progress. We treat every project as a learning experience, and enjoy the journey even if the destination was not exactly what we imagined.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We a film production company based in the East Coast, but have worked all over including , Australia, Los Angeles, and The Netherlands. We work in all areas of production from pre- to post, and love to help creatives bring their visions to life. We just finished our largest feature yet, which will be release sometime in 2025. We are also currently producing 10 short films via our Short short programs, where we help aspiring writers and filmmakers bring their projects to life.
I’d say what separates us from other production companies is that we are really in this business for the love of the game. We love creating, producing, ideating, and we bring the same dedication to any project be it a 2 minute short or a 2 hour documentary.
