Today we’d like to introduce you to Destiny Rogowski
Hi Destiny, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My story started as a child, as young as four, i’d dress up and insist I needed my photo taken. Then later as a teenager dressing friends doing photoshoots in the yard, doing friends hair and makeup for prom, taking photographs for the yearbook staff of my high school.i just couldn’t stop. I was in musicals did hair and makeup, acted in them, helped build sets, took everyone’s headshot for the school display.
There was this need to constantly make art. But in more than one medium.
Then I moved to Hollywood CA at 17, and very quickly started doing some of those things for a living.
At 30 I moved back to NY, and opened Sweet Heart Pin Up where I get to do ALL the things I love.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing is ever easy. I think how you learn is by making mistakes.
The biggest struggle is taking what you consider art and making it more appealing to the masses.
Navigating art as a business, its really a learning process. I think growing up I always knew I was an artist, but I never ever thought about the business end and how to monetize it.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a photographer, That also does hair, makeup, provides wardrobe styling and set creation: What I specialize in is creative photoshoots, that could be pinup, boudoir, dudeoir, spooky and more. I am most proud of creating a safe space where all humans are welcome and however they want to be seen in a photograph I am thrilled to help them achieve that.
I think what sets me apart is the variety of work I put out. Its all across the board.
One day it’s a circus shoot, then corporate headshots, then disney themed shoots. I think people know if they call me up wanting something special that I will do my research, I will immerse myself into their project to get them the best result.
Any big plans?
My plan is always to get to do what I love for as long as I can. Any day that I get to create art and make people feel happy is the best day of my life.
So I look forward to who I will meet next and what their story will be.
I now offer Vintage hairstyling classes at my studio and I have been doing “POP UP”
photoshoots, where i show up at unique spaces and offer mini shoots.
And I created another branch off my business called “Travel Glam” where i will travel to any location to do hair/makeup or both for any event, wedding, or even other photographers shoots. I love collaborating and i love to be of service to other artists.
There is always something new popping into my head to make, create and try. If i am able to inspire others to follow their dreams, thats just the coolest thing to be able to do.
