Today we’d like to introduce you to Deette Stewart
Deette, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey started with a dream, but not the kind most would think of. When I was 9, my grandma was in the hospital and came to me in a dream to let me know she was passing. She talked to me about the body and the soul and let me know her body was no longer working and her soul would be going home. She told me not to be afraid and that I would talk with souls when I was older. When I woke, I told my mom that grandma had died; she informed I was wrong, and shortly later, she received the call that she had.
For years, I dreamt of people passing before the event. I also seemed to know things I should not be able to know and see future events.
In my early 20s, I began the exploration of different divination tools, not giving any of them my full attention. I began psychic hoping, looking for answers, each telling me I already knew the answer. One had even told me I was a better reader than he was. I quickly told him, NO – I don’t do this. He just smiled at me and said I would be. A few years later, another medium in Salem, MA, told me she would see me again, but this time, she would be seeking me for a reading.
It wasn’t until my 40s that my life changed. My life had come to a standstill. My sister had passed, and a year later, I walked away from a long-term domestic violence relationship. I also lost my job. In a moment, I decided to move five hours north of me and try to start a new life. I walked away from nursing and went back to serving tables at a well-known, busy restaurant.
I put all my attention into work in an attempt to ignore my life. Then the restaurant burned, and again, I did not have a job. Shortly after, I saw a post on social media offering a free psychic medium class. I signed up.
I put everything into the class, and a year later, I was signed up under another well-known mentor. My life began to change. In 2016, I was certified as a psychic medium, and in 2018, I earned the title Master Teacher.
Since then, I have traveled the USA, Mexico, and Scotland doing readings. I have a passion for teaching others about their abilities and helping them feel normal.
I have been a guest medium on The Ghost Finders, a documentary on Bad Axe, WI, The Masacre of Bad Axe, WI, and The Roff House in Watseka, IL. I have been a radio/podcast host on WLTK-DB and am currently with The Edge Network and a featured reader of The Edge Magazine. I am also honored to be a member of The Tribe 3 Media company from the Chicago, IL, area as an interviewer, blogger, and medium.
If you had told me ten years ago that one day I would no longer be in the medical field and traveling speaking with spirit, I would have laughed. Now, I am living my best life.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
You would have to define a smooth road. I have had struggles, just as everyone has.
I started my career transfer slowly. I had gone back to being a nurse during the week and doing psychic events on the weekends. I was also traveling to other states to do mediumship galleries and returning to the medical field again. I was hiding who I was on the weekend. Slowly, that changed.
People at work began noticing my social media and asking questions. To my surprise, they weren’t alarmed. They even approached me while at work if they had a patient who was passing, asking if I could come and offer comfort or a reading.
Mondays went from a day I dreaded to a day I got to talk about my adventures with spirit. For the first time, I felt normal in my skin and accepted.
Throughout 2019, my nursing shifts decreased, and my work on the road increased. I struggled with the thought of walking away from a solid career, even though I wasn’t making a living with it any longer. At the end of 2019, the spirit told me not to sign up for any events in 2020. I thought I either heard it wrong or they were crazy. That was now my living hood. In my mind, I agreed to cancel half of them. I was still signed up for 16 events through May.
On February 10, 2020, I was shopping with my daughter, and she bought me the ugliest scrub top I had ever personally seen. I asked her what made her want that for me. She replied, “You are going to wear it tonight and announce you are retiring. I know you will never put on that or any scrub top again”. I did as she said; that night was my last shift. After that, I donated all my medical clothes except for that top. It hangs in my closet to remind me of my best decision. A few weeks later, the pandemic began, and the rest of my events were canceled.
I didn’t go back to nursing; instead, I listened to spirit and began my journey as a full-time psychic medium and teacher. It hasn’t always been easy, but those times that are more of a struggle are when I am in doubt. When I come out of that place, the struggle disappears.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have the ability to sense and read energy, both from people in front of me and from those who have passed on. Everyone has this ability, but I have practiced to develop it further. In addition to being a psychic and medium, I am also a medical intuitive. I worked as a nurse for 21 years without realizing that I was training to help others find answers to what ails them. I advise people to also see a doctor, as solving life’s mysteries often requires more than one perspective.
I love traveling around the country to reach out to those who cannot come to me. When I’m not traveling, I’m at home conducting readings and classes over Zoom. I believe that my life’s purpose is to help others. I also have the ability to sense the energy of homes and communicate with any spirits that may still reside there. This brings comfort not only to the homeowners but also to the spirits. It helps them find peace and continue on their journey.
I believe what sets me apart from other psychic mediums is that I work across multiple platforms. I enjoy doing one-on-one readings and connecting with someone’s energy or their loved ones. I also love entering a haunted home and helping those who are in that environment. There aren’t many mediums that operate in both worlds, and I know that may sound strange to some, but in reality, we all have our individual specialties. It’s rare to find someone who equally loves doing both. I hope to continue expanding who I am and help more people and spirits in the future.
What’s next?
I have many new opportunities unfolding each day. Over the last year, I have partnered with The Edge Magazine, Tribe 3 Productions, and Small Town Productions. Each of these is bringing me different opportunities to the public. I allow myself to do and work within my passion.
Under my own brand and the brands above, you’ll be able to find me at various events throughout the United States, in documentaries, and in media campaigns. The biggest change has been my belief in myself, knowing that others believe in me as well, and accepting that belief within me.
One of the biggest events is Days of the Dead in November in Rosemont, IL. This event brings people of all walks of life under one roof. It is an opportunity to introduce mediumship and the paranormal to those who would not normally find themselves interested in it.
