Today we’d like to introduce you to Dana Buckmir
Hi Dana, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m Dana. My alter ego is Danalicious. 😂
I started writing for a national online publication called Examiner in 2010 while living in South Florida. In 2016, when Examiner shut down, I created my own platform, Danaliciousreviews, specializing in everything delicious.
I grew up in the hospitality industry, so restaurants are my heart but the blog, www.danaliciousreviews.com expands beyond the biz to cover hotels, spas, concerts, local events, fitness, celebrity interviews and products.
To me, dining is very subjective. What I love you may hate and vice versa. Therefore, I only highlight the positive. I don’t lie and say I love something if I don’t. If I don’t like something, I just don’t write about it. Times are tough, and businesses need all the support they can get. I detest the title “food critic.” It sounds so negative and self-important. Who am I to criticize? Food Consultant is more my style.
When I started out in this game, I wrote notes on a cocktail napkin and pieced them together to craft my first article. 14 years later, I’ve had so many amazing opportunities in which I will forever be grateful.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Food blogging is fun, but competitive. There’s a need to post regularly and stay relevant. Everyone is always looking for a way to increase their followers and engagement. It’s definitely a hustle. Also, the follow and unfollow culture is pointless. I believe there is room for everyone to grow. When we support each other, everyone wins! Over the years I’ve learned to change and pivot with the times and the knowledge I’ve acquired based on what works and what doesn’t.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a digital creator, content writer and social media manager. I’ve worked with countless big name companies as well as small businesses to help drive traffic and exposure to their brands. In order to be successful a person has to be open-minded, have crestive vision and think outside the box. It’s about listening to the client, assessing their needs and guiding them to reach their goals.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
The industry is always evolving so it’s important to continue to learn and grow. I think in order to be successful one needs to be flexible and experiment with what works and what doesn’t. Now with artificial intelligence it’s definitely an obstacle for writers but I don’t think technology can replace God given human talent. It’s just about finding ways to highlight a unique voice and the benefits. Social media is a powerful platform. I’m certain that social media will continue to play a huge role in our lives both personally and professionally. There will always be a need for writers and influencers to market products and services. I’m excited to see what the future brings. It’s been a wild ride. I’m here for it!
