Today we’d like to introduce you to Code Forty
Hi CODE, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started creating clothing around 2 years ago, i’ve always had a passion for cut and sew pieces and hand working different types of garments but 2 years ago was when I had fully launched my own line and brand. I started off just altering pieces I had available to me, hand distressing clothes, cutting up old clothes, up-cycling, etc.
Any way I could create new items out of old fabric was my main focus at the time, I later progressed to slowly making professional samples and getting orders mass produced, this in turn led to me building up a customer base and a community that now supports me with any of my ventures. I now am starting to produce in house, vastly making the output for ideas faster, greatly inspired by the efficiency of artists like Virgil and Ye.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
In my eyes it depends on your motive. If it’s out of passion as it was for me, it’ll be something you’d do either way, which means there won’t ever be an issue besides creative block. However, if whatever you’re pursuing comes from a business point of view ONLY, it won’t ever work out, and if it does it won’t be as enjoyable. You need to find the passion in what you do, the main question I always ask myself, is questioning if I would do what i’m currently doing, if I never got a dime out of it. The answer will always be “yes.”
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a creative and I own a creative studio. I make clothes, music, film, and a variety of art. I specialize in clothing and fashion, I see it as a way to express yourself and human nature in an unorthodox way, in a way where words are unnecessary. I’m known for my work in the fashion scene that aims to innovate the gap between conceptual fashion and streetwear. I want to create an accessible outlet that anyone can be apart of. I truly care for my art and work, i’m a bit of an unhealthy perfectionist but that’s what sets me apart, the drive to produce quality art even if there was no monetary gain involved. I’ve been able to work my way up to eventually working with idols and people i’ve known of before I even started creating. Pharrell said there’s no such thing as unseen talent anymore, that’s why I create at the highest level day in and day out. I have a few conceptual ideas and projects coming soon, I can’t wait for the world to see them.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Happiness is broad, so much so that it’s actually a spectrum in my eyes. Art. Family. Community. Nature. All being necessary in my eyes. That’s because it’s more than being happy on the surface, it’s about feeling fulfilled and STAYING healthy over a period of time. Anything can bring short term happiness, we use them everyday. Not everything can fulfill you and your mental health. The key is to make yourself happy, being non-dependent on an external factor. Find happiness in things that are in abundance and can lift you out of a state of unhappiness.
