Today we’d like to introduce you to Caito Aase.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started acting in elementary school and continued through college, where I grew to deeply love Shakespeare. I went to school for acting in New Jersey, lived in London studying Shakespeare, then graduated, packed 2 duffle bags and moved to Chicago. I’ve been here for 13 years now. I’ve had a lot of opportunity to work in the theatre community here and in the last 8 years I’ve been working in the film & TV world here. I especially love horror and indie film.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all. Aside from the regular trials and tribulations of being a professional creative, the pandemic and various political landscapes have created tumultuous circumstances. However, the industry keeps changing and adapting and evolving. I love film and theatre people, we are some of the most resilient.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a professional theatre and film actor most known for Revealer (Shudder Exclusive film) and Black Mold (Tubi). I’m also known as Helena Handbasket, professional burlesque performer based in Chicago and winner of the Wild Card award at the Oregon Burlesque Festival in 2019. I’m proud of where I am now. I evolved out of trying to be too commercial and embraced my edginess.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I’m part Lebanese! My mother was Lebanese and Irish and I feel very deeply connected to Lebanese culture, as it’s the predominate culture I was raised in.
