Today we’d like to introduce you to Brigid Turner
Hi Brigid , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Thank you for the opportunity to share a bit of my journey. I truly believe this is the path I am supposed to be on because I didn’t set out for this journey.
It started out in college, with me modeling and dancing. This led me to become a teaching artist for school-age children. I am grateful to my dance teacher, Terry Whitt Bailey, for giving me the opportunity to teach a youth program. After graduation when, I was scouted to be in an independent film as a model. I had 1 line and 2 scenes. My next role was where I played the role of a Diana Ross look-a-like in American Gangster and a model in Spiderman 3. Some time after that, I was given an opportunity to be an assistant for a director of music videos, a short web series, and a feature film. That led me to create my own pilot that I filmed in New Orleans, called For A Dark Skin Girl. From there, I created my own production company and produced multiple independent films, which we have won a few awards for.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I am grateful to God for all of the experiences that this filmmaking journey has taken me. Grateful for all of the people who have inspired me, worked with me and helped me along the way.
I am very proud of myself for hanging in there through the tough times as well. A lot of the challenges has been financial. Working with a small budget to create projects of value and quality. Getting my films on streaming platforms and getting people to know of my work abilities.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in quite a few areas of filmmaking. I am a content creator, a writer, a producer, a director, and an actor.
I am most proud of writing, producing, filming, directing, and acting in my first feature film that was done during the pandemic. The film is called Run Crew. It was a long process, but we finally got it on Amazon Prime.
I believe what sets me apart from others is my drive, my ability to complete what I start, and to strive for the best level of the filmmaking process as possible. I am again grateful to God for those individuals, opportunities and challenges on my path.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I give credit to God first and then my mother. If I had to list the first set of individuals and then the most recent, it would be these names.. Terry Whitt Bailey (My first teaching artist job opportunity), Mark Carrenceja- (my first job as an assistant director for music videos), Tony Clomax- (my first assistant director job for a web series) Ephraim Benton- ( producing and acting partner for over 10 years) Derron Campbell- (believing in my projects to film edit and produce with little resources), Azariyah BenIsreal- (for being a great supportive brother and helping on all of my projects) Claude Joseph -( for being a great mentor, supporter of my talents, Raquel Lamarr- (for showing up whenever I need her to support and work with me on my projects. There were many others, but these people helped shape me into who I am in the filmmaking and production journey.
