Today we’d like to introduce you to Antoinette Garland
Hi Antoinette, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Antoinette, and I’m an Herbalist from the South Side of Chicago. My journey to herbalism began with my Father, who was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in October of 2014, and myself, who suffer from an irregular menstrual cycle.
This led me to gain a better understanding of how to use herbs, and now have a Master Clinical Herbalist certification and a Herbal Business Cosmic Creole.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Building a business is a bumpy road, but my first year in business was a great success! The recognition and the feedback I’ve received blew me away; also, selling out on products was a good feeling. The slight demand was overwhelming for me initially, but this motivated me to keep pushing through. There have been times when I wanted to pull the plug for financial reasons. Working part-time and picking up small-hustle jobs can only help so much, but I was able to maintain and still build up my business. I have a great support system, from family to friends, and the staff at Far South CDC, who are there to help me when I need it. I’m truly grateful and blessed to have them in my business and personal life. They’re very much a part of the success I have with my herbal business.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an herbalist. I’ve created 20 different tinctures, 13 of which are now for sale, that help with a range of issues, from anxiety, depression, menstrual pain, hypertension, and more.
I’m most proud of the feedback I’ve received on how my product helped and how I was able to build a business and see it through regardless of the struggles that come with it.
What truly sets me apart is my commitment to simplicity and effectiveness. I listen to your needs and strive to provide straightforward solutions, ensuring your confidence and trust in my products.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I’ve never seen myself as a risk-taker. However, I turned down a position at one of the top hospitals in Chicago to pursue my herbal business. On my risk-taking journey, I’ve learned to be prepared for what comes with it, from my decisions to the products I create. A lot of fear comes with taking a risk and betting on yourself. You will go through feelings of uncertainty, but having faith in yourself and knowing what you’ve created can ultimately change your life and make a difference in someone’s mental or physical health; you can say to yourself that it was worth the risk.
Cosmic Creole was worth the risk, and I don’t regret it.
