Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Gilvary Noël Cody Mumford
Hi Amy Gilvary, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Theater invites you to step outside of yourself and take big personal risks. As theater kids, we grew up knowing that these experiences were unlike any other and deeply felt the positive impact that they had. It was important to both of us that we pay it forward.
Creative Co-Op is all about cultivating imagination, making LOUD mistakes, being brave, and asking “What if?”
We’re always throwing out new and wild ideas.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Who opens a studio during the height of Covid, when singing was said to be the most dangerous activity? We do, of course!
We wore masks and face shields, took temperatures at the door, and Zoomed our way through the pandemic. While businesses around us closed, we remained open because of this truth: Art is not a luxury, it is a necessity.
Our studio became a lifeline of expression and community when we all needed the most. We emerged with a new attitude that everything is figure-out-able.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Our studio is a beautiful mash up of who we are as individuals and what we can create together. While we find inspiration with each other, we also explore it through outside passions and pursuits.
Amy is an incredible author who shares her personal journey through two books: “Returned,” dedicated to her years working at animal shelters and “I’m AVG, a snapshot memoir” about her personal journey to mental health. It’s important to us that we never get stagnant, that our imaginations are ignited, and creativity fully fueled—especially if we want to continue to inspire our students, the next generation of dreamers, darers, and do-ers!
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Communication and trust are the backbone of any organization. If you’re opening a new business with a partner, make sure they are the right partner.
Ask yourself these questions:
• Are your core values aligned?
• Do you have the same goals, but different strengths?
• Can you have fun learning from each other?
• Can you laugh at the stupid, insignificant stuff that’s bound to happen?
And lastly, some advice for you that’s really important to us…. know that you’re making a difference together and celebrate that as often as you can!
