Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Salazar
Amanda, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
During the covid stay at home order, I started food blogging pictures on Instagram of restaurants I’d try and also short clips as I would cook and my results on Snapchat. People kept asking me for recipes and showing interest in my cooking, then people suggested I start posting cooking videos on TikTok. I tried doing that and sharing videos of my experiences at restaurants and they were received really well which motivated me to keep going and see where it all takes me! My audience has grown to 21k on TikTok and over 5k on Instagram, organically, and has brought me great experiences and opportunities for networking.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not! But I think that goes with anything in life, and I try not to get discouraged. Some of the struggles I deal with are imposter syndrome, burn out, platforms constantly changing and even though I’ll try to be consistent it will sometimes feel like you’re putting in so much work with little reward, because it’s not that easy for everyone to be monetized.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
On social media, I’m known for food content, mostly. I cook and share recipes on TikTok and also visit restaurants and other small businesses to either share my personal experience or in collaboration with the restaurant to help promote them. I’m mostly proud of supporting small minority owned businesses and also sharing my cooking experiences with my own recipes. I think what sets me apart from others is that I’m trying to keep true to myself. I don’t just go to restaurants or make recipes because they’re trending, but because they’re either a reflection of my community or something that I genuinely enjoy cooking or eating.
What matters most to you?
Authenticity. I’m very much a “what you see is what you get” type of person and I try to keep that energy and show that in my journey as content creator.
