In our experience, talking about legacy is often subtly discouraged by society and we find this to be deeply unfortunate. Thinking about the legacy you would like to build can help you better align your work, life, time – your sweat and tears – with your values. Below, we’ve tried to create a space for folks to start conversations about they legacies they are hoping to build.

The first word that comes to mind when thinking of a legacy is: impact. Whether it be through my small business or any of the endeavors I’ve pursued throughout my life, the foremost goal that I’ve had is to create a tangible, meaningful impact. In general, I also think that as a society, we place a lot of value on mass impact and while I think it’s incredible, to positively impact a lot of people, I also think it’s just as valuable to change or significantly impact one person’s life. My ambition for my legacy is to be known as a confident, self-motivated, and courageous woman who chose to follow her own path and pursue her aspirations, giving her all in the process, rather than proving a point to others and living a life dictated by others. Read more>>

My hope for my legacy is that I will have been able to help more people become better versions of themselves after they’ve left one of my photo sessions. I want to help them feel confidence in ways maybe they haven’t felt in a while. Help them relieve some stress by laughter during their sessions. Or help them work through some mental thoughts that are blocking them from being the best version they want to be. Read more>>

I would say that I would like my legacy to be one that glorifies God in the most humbling way. I want to leave this earth completely empty, and when I say empty, I would like to have done everything that God has called me to do, Leaving nothing undone. It actually took me a minute to process this question and really think about all things that I still would like to accomplish. Read more>>

People have always focused on what makes them different. But what if we started focusing on what makes us the same? What if we redirected our focus for attention towards intention? What if we thought about the end before we begin? Read more>>

I hope that my legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of so many clients that I have helped to celebrate a milestone. By way of mentoring and supporting colleagues and vendors, I hope that I have made the event planning industry better. In times when we don’t take being able to celebrate for granted, I think as event planners we should all know that what we do is not just “fluff”. It is important. Whether it is helping a family celebrate a milestone or helping a company reach their business goals, what we do as planners counts. I hope that my passion for what I do is contagious. Read more>>

The draw for me into photography was in one way or another always related back to storytelling. I grew up loving stories – learning, reading, telling, and creating stories. In my pastimes, I can remember sitting at a blinking mouse, typing as fast as I could from the ages of 10-14 years old writing mini books and stories each summer. Photography is now my outlet to tell other peoples’ stories and help them create a legacy that outlives their love. Read more>>

I hope to be known for the way i loved and cared for the people around me. It’s an honor to have the trust of not only my clients hair, but their hearts. I hope that everyone who sits in my chair knows they are seen and loved. My faith has shaped the way I see people and myself. I don’t believe I have it all together or know the answers, but I can treat people like they matter. Read more>>

I hope my legacy will be creating the law firm that responds to the legal needs of animals and their people. Right now, I am one of the few animal law firms in America, but I am the only one with offices that span the United States. Currently, The Animal Law Firm is fighting for underdogs in Colorado, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, and we have plans to be in all 50 states in the next 15 years. Animal law is a misunderstood and often maligned area of the law, but the thousands of people and their pets, livestock, and hobby animals that I have helped shows that more could be done for this underserved population. I hope to create a brand that inspires people from not only my country of birth; Trinidad and Tobago but people around the world. I use my brand as a way to express my creativity and share my current life experiences in the hope that it resonates with persons who choose to shop the brand. One of my goals is that people shop not only because they love the product but also because the meaning behind each piece connects with them in some way. Read more>>

My daughters are at the heart of everything I do. As a Black mom, it can be tough to reckon with how much influence I may have to ensure an inclusive future for my girls. Knowing this, it’s essential that I not only center equity in all spaces I occupy but also hold folks accountable to do the same. Read more>>
