It’s wild out there and the struggle is real. Entrepreneurship is no joke, everyday is a new challenge, a new up, a new down, it never stops. The action, the drama, the energy is addictive and it’s why so many never want to retire from entrepreneurship. We’ve asked some very talented entrepreneurs to share some of those crazy stories with us.

A few weeks after launching Kourtsports a major department store reached out to me about potentially having Kourtsports pieces in the store. We spoke via video chat and there were three buyers asking questions about my company. I was grateful for the opportunity chatting about the brand with a company that I use to work for. I dreamed about my business being featured in a department store. Even though my brand was not featured due to needing enough inventory, I felt like I already won because a huge company noticed a small business. Read more>>

This story is really amazing! We serve the homeless and the veteran population of our community. One particular veteran who we call, Phil asked if we could help him get a car to replace the one that was repossessed when he was recovering from having his leg amputated. He had $2,000 to make a purchase, we knew that it would be a tough find. In addition to this, it was not a usual request but because of the circumstances, we agreed. Read more>>

So in business there are so many things that go right and go wrong and they definitely have very different impacts on you. I have been cooking for well over 20 years I’ve owned my business for closer to 10 years. I knew I had a vision of what I wanted to do and what I wanted to be able to cook because of the many different places I visited. Being a soft taco who then later gets an education really gives you a different perspective on the business. Read more>>

The craziest thing that has happened to me as an entrepreneur, so far, is getting sued by the University of Texas. As a small business owner that is probably one of the scariest emails you could receive. Although the lawsuit was eventually dropped, it went on for over a year, and it cost me a pretty penny in legal fees. When I look back the craziest part of the lawsuit was the allegation itself. This major university wanted to sue my small business for Name Image and Likeness (NIL). Read more>>

I am a different type of real estate professional. I primarily wholesale real estate. We get properties that are in disarray and sell our stake in the property to the highest buyer. I have a certain niche that I follow. I love to focus on problem solving. If a person is looking to sell their property, nine times out of ten, they have a problem with doing so. This is why they choose not to work with a real estate agent and work with investors instead. Read more>>

We have been helping a lady for few years and close to her 100th birthday we found out she was one of the Rosie the Riveter during the war. We connected with a local Rosie the Riveter chapter, and we were able to plan a party for this lady in front of her house during the pandemic. We showed up with signs, balloon’s and we have some ladies dressed like Rosie. We sang and clap together. It was a special moment to see her face waving to us like a queen from her front window. Unforgettable! Read more>>

I often say that my career is, as much or more, about customer service as it is doing good hair. As a result, I’ve always made customer experience a priority. Unlike some customer service industries (such as retail sales and fast food), customers are generally happy to see us and treat us kindly. There is one particular day though, that I would honestly like to scrub from my memory! My experience with two long time clients on this day actually changed how I view customer service in the context of being a small business owner. Read more>>

Positive: A month after I had opened Mermaid Glow Co., I was scheduled to spray a few girls for a girl’s night in spray tan party. It was only supposed to be three or four girls. I got to the apartment at about 630pm, grabbed my things and walked up the stairs to knock on the door. I was immediately greeted with a shot of tequila and so many hugs. These girls were SO excited to get sprayed and just enjoy a night together. Read more>>

I’m actually going to tell the story about how I came to be in the music industry to begin with. When I was in college studying to be an elementary educator, I was looking for items to pump up my resume. I asked my peers while in class one how I could do this. What would be the best option? They told me they needed a president of our student chapter for educators. I assumed this was an elected position but no one else wanted it! Read more>>

Being at this business (insurance), you have the opportunity to listen and evaluate different situations, live styles, etc. The people give you the chance and the confidence to see their realities. One of the several shocking experiences I’ve had in the last few years belongs to a family that didn’t have the insurance culture. Unfortunately I met them after something very bad happened to them. The head of that family one day got very sick, he was hospitalized and after several days died. Read more>>

Being acknowledged of my art and given an opportunity to display my art in an established museum within a month of notice of me really existence. I was a supervisor in maintenance in the Charles H. Wright Museum in the late 90’s. On my break I would create art from the influence of working around different styles of art creations and I accumulated some in my office. One day the president of the museum at that time venture down the lower level and passed my office as the door was open. Read more>>

I’ve always been a highly creative person and I’ve always struggled with finding the best way to fully express my creativity and get a release that truly feeds my soul. Finally after not sticking to any of these creative avenues. Read more>>
