It’s wild out there and the struggle is real. Entrepreneurship is no joke, everyday is a new challenge, a new up, a new down, it never stops. The action, the drama, the energy is addictive and it’s why so many never want to retire from entrepreneurship. We’ve asked some very talented entrepreneurs to share some of those crazy stories with us.

How I Lost Over $1M and Then Got a GRATEFUL Tattoo In 2009 I had the brilliant idea to use my business growth skills to “do good.” On the surface, it seemed like the smartest thing I’d ever done. Combine purposeful ideas with business growth know-how? HA! Hardly. Nothing about the last decade seemed to work the way I thought it would. Read more>>

When we started this business back in 2017, I never thought one of the challenges thrown our way would be a car running through our building… We opened our second location in Northglenn, CO three months before the world shut down. It goes without saying that this studio had a rough start. We were just starting to build momentum and a membership base up at Northglenn when we had to shut our doors due to the pandemic. One of the best experiences in my life happened as a direct result of me being a realtor. I’m fifth generation Denverite, and my family has been in the area since before Colorado was even a state. My great-grandmother, a famous author in her day, purchased a duplex in South City Park during the Great Depression. Someone in my family has lived on either side of the duplex for nearly 100 years. Last year, my cousins reached out to me to bring their mother’s side of the duplex to the market after she passed, and we worked together on marketing, pricing, and listing strategy. Read more>>

I am a consulting Astrologer and I occasionally offer classes in Astrology. In class a couple of years ago, I noticed two of my students were getting close. When I ran their charts together, I noticed they were soulmates, two people who were meant to be together. The problem was that one of them was in a relationship. I warned both of them to tread carefully, but fate took over. I just married them last November (I’m also an ordained minister) and they’re expecting their first child! They credit me with bringing them together. Read more>>

The day we launched our new E-commerce website, we were featured on The Today Show. Since we had literally launched the site that day and orders started flooding in, we thought it was a result of going live with our website. I was completely confused that an online presence could results in hundreds of orders in just hours. Then we started to realize what happened – that we were highlighted on The Today Show. Read more>>

I had an amazing experience recently. I saw a post on facebook from a woman who had slipped into a depression and stopped taking care of her hair. Nobody would have known because she was working hard and covering her depression with a huge smile on her face. She was working with clients and interacting with family, nobody noticed. She had been putting it up in a bun for what felt like a week to her. In reality it was 4 weeks and all of her hair was matted to her head. Read more>>

NOTE: This is not the “craziest” story. Please adapt the question to a “recent” story: A few years ago (2017), I was going through many scripts and film packages in order to find our next production. We wanted to produce a Family film, which was – and is – a very dragging genre. I got this great script about a girl sneaking an Elephant out of a circus, and avoiding the search parties for days. I decide to pick this one to produce. We start the casting process and they manage to get great names, like David Arquette or Tom Arnold, and others we almost got like Bill Murray. Read more>>

(Excerpt from new book Say What You Mean in a Nice Way; Chapter 9: This Too Shall Pass) Dawn to Dusk I woke at dawn, looked out my third-floor hotel room window and did a doubletake. Where there had been a parking lot filled with cars the night before, there was now a lake. No cars, no parking lot—and no way out. Read more>>

One day out of the blue Brandy Norwood strolls into my boutique. I wasn’t really sure if it was her, but after greeting her I realized it was indeed the one and only BRANDY! I was ecstatic realizing that Brandy was inside my boutique but didn’t want to make her uncomfortable and was trying to control my excitement. After a little while, I started up a conversation with her and she was super sweet in person, very down to earth. She ended up picking up a few pieces from the boutique and after checking out, I built up the courage to ask for a photo. Read more>>

The Negative (besides the obvious of covid) is having to either ask (or kick someone out) for “misbehaving” or being disrespectful to the studio, teachers or other students. Here are a couple fun examples: A lady would sit up front in ever single class and be behind by 20 seconds of every single posture (for years). After way too many chats, a teacher asked her politely to please stay together with the class. This student lost it and was cussing at the teacher saying f-you I can do what I want I pay to be here etc etc… this is a grown person. It was time to go somewhere else. Read more>>

By far; the covid-19 pandemic was the craziest thing to happen to me and my business. It affected the world! Stopped all business, all fun, all travel, all freedoms and leisure. And at first it was fun being home; having quality time with my daughter, cooking, having live happy hours for the first time. But then reality hit… how am I going to sustain the financials of life and running a salon without income, after being forcefully closed. Read more>>

How do you pick one crazy story out of 10 years? There are three things that I have to tell you! We were at a show maybe 6-7 years ago. We always give away a few spaces for free at each show, sort of as a way to help new vendors get started or as a thank you to existing vendors. At this show, we had given a space away to a sweet lady who was a new vendor with us. We had a great show and at the end of the day, she came up to me sobbing. Read more>>
