Pursuing a creative or artistic career can certainly be fulfilling, but it’s far from certain. Over the years, we’ve heard about the struggles from thousands of artists and creatives – it’s incredibly challenging and it can be tempting to wonder – what if you hadn’t pursued this path. We asked artists and creatives from across the community if they’ve every had those doubts themselves.

I’m the happiest I’ve been, in a long time, identifying as a fine artist while working a full-time job. I studied photography at SCAD and graduated in 2019, but I think taking a photo is at the bottom of the list of what I’ve done in the creative field, and I have no shame in that. I can say with certainty that right now, in this moment, I am very happy as an artist. And that always hasn’t been the answer, you know? Most of my career has been having fun in the moment and doubuting myself heavily in between projects. I really feel like I’ve hit a stride this year, though. I”m doing projects I feel passionate about, and I’m finding purpose in those projects–grow in my technique, find a new perspective, things like that. Ha. This is a really funny question for me because if I’m being truthful with myself and everyone reading, not a day goes by that I don’t think my life would be easier if I wasn’t an artist. I’ve always been into Art ever since I was a child! I remember when I was growing up how drawing was always an escape for me. It gave me so much clarity & always made me feel very peaceful! I went to school for business marketing to have a degree given the fact that when I was growing up society set the standard that if you don’t have a degree you’re a failure! Um..being a creative is hard, its fun but its definitely hard. The idea that im completely dependent on myself and everything falls on me is quite stressful at most times. There’s no one to fall back on and there’s no one to share any losses with, which sucks.
