Being a business owner isn’t easy. There are amazing highs, but the lows are often quite intense as well. Somedays it feels like the problems never stop – regardless of how much success you achieve. The problems just grow, evolve, morph. So we asked business owners if they sometimes wonder what it would be like to just have a regular job and have shared some of the highlights below.

One of the blessings of working my own business is the freedom of time, where I set my own schedule and am able take on a client project at any time. Going on three years as full-time, I’ve been through busy seasons and slow ones, and it’s during the slow seasons that I still consider going back to a 9 to 5. But when I’m looking for jobs and about to apply, I’m reminded that I value my freedom of time, commitment to my business, and being able to work from anywhere too much. I’d be lying if I said I’ve never thought about going back to a regular job. Being a business owner can be really rewarding, but it also comes with a lot of pressure, especially during slow seasons. The last time I had that thought was when things got quiet and I didn’t have any new clients lined up. I was stressing about money, second-guessing myself, and honestly just feeling overwhelmed. I am 100% absolutely, happy as a buisness owner. Of course there are times when challenges are present and you are trying to navigate them that a “Normal” job would be easier and sounds enticing…but then again, that’s why myself and other buisness Owners chose to go our own path…because we are not and don’t want to be “normal”. I am incredibly happy as a business owner. I grew up in the salon industry.
Right out of highschool I had a “regular” job. I absolutely hated it. It was boring not being able to interact with people as you get to in a salon. It was unfulfilling. So many dos and donts. Having to ask for permission to take off of work and have it approved or not was wild to me. I just wasn’t used to that in the world I grew up in.
