Being a business owner isn’t easy. There are amazing highs, but the lows are often quite intense as well. Somedays it feels like the problems never stop – regardless of how much success you achieve. The problems just grow, evolve, morph. So we asked business owners if they sometimes wonder what it would be like to just have a regular job and have shared some of the highlights below.

I love being a business owner! For so many of my jobs, I suffered from imposter syndrome, and in a few of my jobs, I was definitely an imposter, faking my way through work that I didn’t understand and didn’t excite me. Owning my own business has freed my from that — I know exactly what I’m talking about, all the time, and I’m good at the work I do. I miss the camraderie of a regular job, but I meet so many people with the work I do. Read more>>

I absolutely am in love with being my own boss. Though it comes with its definite perks, like having to answer to nobody but yourself, there are disadvantages as well. For example, it takes serious self management skills, which I’ve had to learn & teach myself because naturally – not the best with that haha. Another thing about content creation & social media “influencing” is just how lonely it gets, as a huge chunk of my work is done primarily online, you don’t have the same “team” or co-worker experiences as a regular job. I think the most desirable part of having a standard 9-5 job is the stability that it brings with it. While I love building my business and am very passionate about it, there have been times where money has been tight and I have contemplated transitioning back into the workforce. However, I find that being self employed best allows me to be productive on my terms and build upon my ideas and strategies that may differ from corporate structures. Read more>>

I personally love this question and is something I feel so passionate about! For me, I couldn’t be happier as a business owner. I look back and think about all of the “regular” jobs I have had and think how lucky I am because I wouldn’t go back even if I could. In our society, owning a business and being an entrepreneur has never been more accepted. This is the perfect time to take a leap of faith, invest in that start up idea you’ve had for years and just do it! As a business owner, I work for no one, I have a flexible schedule, I get to spend a lot of time with my family, and so much more! Read more>>

I truly love being a business owner most days! What I enjoy most are the challenges and changes that come with it. I love planning and seeing those plans come to life, witnessing the results, and making decisions that have a real impact. Of course, things don’t always go as planned, and even the best ideas can have unexpected outcomes. But perhaps what I love most is the constant learning—learning about clients, about business, and about new ways to be more effective and impactful. Read more>>

First, I want to introduce myself. My name is Lauren and I’m unique because I have two businesses in two different fields. I am a licensed mental health therapist in private practice and a content creator/UGC creator. My content focuses on fashion with a little bit of beauty and motherhood. I love being a business owner;.I never really quite “fit in” at any “regular job.” I’m naturally very independent so office culture felt really confining. Being a business owner felt natural to me and I adjusted to it easily. But after I had my son in February of 2024, I thought about what it would be like to go back to a regular job. My sons birth was really traumatic and I almost lost him. This experience really changed me in ways I cannot explain. Read more>>

When I started my company “The Golden Serpent Tattoos”, it has had its ups and downs but as does everything in life. What motivates me is never having to work for someone again. Tattoo artists go through this thing called slow season which starts in November and ends in January. During this time money is harder to make due to the holidays so we have to be prepared for when it comes. Last year I was starting off late in August so when slow season had came I was barely making ends meet to the point I thought that I would have to get a job. Read more>>
