We were lucky to catch up with $aucellina Suavé recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi $aucellina , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I have always had a love for doing activities that fulfilled my soul, and the Arts always achieved that. From the early age of 2, I was involved in dance all the way up to college. I was in other sports and orchestra as well. Once I stopped pursuing dance and orchestra in college, I yearned for another medium. Post-undergrad is when I started to care more about fashion and rap. So, in 2019, is when I decided to give music a try—using my voice as the medium. It gives me a chance to have a voice, when normally I am a person that is vocally reserved.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I really got the inkling to start recording when I moved to Atlanta. Being around other recording artists made me realize that I could convert my creativity into another medium. Rapping gives me a chance to brag on myself in a rhythmically appealing way. In elevating my rhymes, I also started elevating my fashion sense. I’ve always wanted to model since I took runway classes years ago. My greatest accomplishments thus far has been the opportunities to perform at state-level awards shows. I’ve also worked with other artists and brands as a model. I love the contrasting themes in my music and fashion; I love using whisper tones on hard, gritty 808s. I’m pretty small in stature but I love wearing oversized streetwear or even alternative style clothing. I pride myself in having the ability and confidence to play with different looks and sounds.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
The best support for creatives is SHARING! Of course coming to events is helpful as well, but one share goes a long way. We basically have the power of marketing at our fingertips and catching someone’s eye can make a world of difference. Creatives want to engage with our audience as well, so even commenting and giving positive feedback gives us a chance to strike up conversations as well as pushing through those algorithms.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part is being able to put my thoughts into something audible and tangible that people can relate to. It’s a catharsis of sorts. Being able to release all that energy into something that will far outlive me is freeing. Eventually, the goal is to create an affluent lifestyle from the media I create as well. That will come with persistence, of course.
