We recently connected with Isaac Rendon and have shared our conversation below.
Isaac, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. One of the most important things small businesses can do, in our view, is to serve underserved communities that are ignored by giant corporations who often are just creating mass-market, one-size-fits-all solutions. Talk to us about how you serve an underserved community.
There was a documentary I had the opportunity to work on at the beginning of my career. A friend reached out to me asking if I wanted to be part of a project that would focus on mental health, specifically for men in the African American community. And immediately I said yes. Something like this, that has purpose and brings awareness to people in your local /global communities, is something that I wanted to be part of creating. It brought me joy seeing the faces of those who felt compelled to do something about this. It drove me to educate myself and those around me to better our neighborhoods with a conversation focused on caring for another human being.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m just a kid at heart with a spark to voice my perspective, fear, joy, hope, authenticity, and peace through videos and one day films. I started to take this seriously when I had the opportunity to film on a music tour that I was a part of for a few years.
One gig led to another and next thing you know, now I’m here starting my own thing, making a difference, one person or one company at a time (or simultaneously haha). Sometimes on my own or with some amazing crew and cast around the area.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
ooh this is a good one, hmmm….. My belief system. This was huge in my life because it is something that was taught to me at a young age. As we get older, we take in everything we see and hear like a sponge, whether we are aware of it or not. Some things stick and some things are in the back of your mind.
Throughout the process I had to learn what I was going to do about it? Not what the next person is doing or saying but what am I going to do? So many things in life happen but what really resonates in me is what comes from us? What are we doing to change what needs to be changed in this world? Does it start with us or does it start with the next person after us?
Tough pill to swallow but this means many things in whatever people go through.
It’s so easy to point fingers but never at ourselves. This comes with maturing mentally and just having the right people in your life.
I always say to people around me, “Easy to be mean, hard to be kind.”
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Calmness & Confidence is the reason why my clients stick around. Yes they’ll remember the project that was completed, but I think you’ll be remembered by how you treated the client and how you treated those that interacted with you along the way.
