We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kylie Sweet a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kylie, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about serving the underserved.
Recently I had set up my jumping castle at a large church event for hundreds of kids to play on. When the event was over I started ushering all of the kids out and was going to start tearing everything down, and a mom walked up to me and asked if I minded allowing her autistic son to jump a couple times now that the other kids were out.
The mom started to tell me about how her son has a hard time socially and how he gets very easily overloaded in large groups so he often misses out on these types of things at events.
I gave her my card and told her to reach out to me whenever her next event is and that I would set up the jumping castle for her son for free.
It opened up my eyes to these amazing children who often get overlooked because they are different than the rest of the kids. Since then I have offered that same offer to every parent I have come across with a special needs child. I want them to feel included and be able to have just as much fun as the other kids.
I feel like our community doesn’t always have events set up to be all inclusive for both special needs and non special needs children. It would be nice to see the different community events and businesses offer different opportunities to these children.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hello, my name is Kylie sweet. I started my event planning and rental business in April of 2022. I was looking for different vendors to set up for my daughters birthday party, and began to realize that I couldn’t find a lot of party vendors that offered soft play, bounce houses, balloons, etc. I especially noticed that there was not one business that offered everything. I would have had to hire 6 different vendors to accomplish everything I wanted.
It sparked an idea in me, and I began researching insurance, liabilities, website platforms, and the different party set ups I would want to offer.
I invested in products to offer toddler soft play set ups, multiple different jumping castles, balloons and backdrops, tent slumber parties, luxury picnics , table and chair rentals, and even outdoor movie screens & games.
I have been in business now for over a year and I love being able to see these parties come to life. The kids are always filled with so much joy and I love getting to be a part of that.
How did you build your audience on social media?
When I opened my business I also started an Instagram and Facebook page – where I could post my pictures from different party set ups I’ve done and begin advertising my business.
I started following local party venues in town, as well as different groups specified for moms in my area, or party vendors needed.
While my following was growing, I also started posting ads to google, Facebook , and Instagram which also directed a lot of traffic to my platforms.
One of the most beneficial things I did was collabing with local social media influencers – which really helped get my name out there to all of their followers as well as a lot of local people In Arizona.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I worked really hard to gain a Social media following as well as keep up with marketing my business.
I think what really helped grow my reputation is I have never cancelled a party last minute, or not shown up at the agreed upon delivery time.
I think that has spoken volumes to my clients, as well as the party set ups they are being left with.
I am one of the few business in my market that customize my party set ups to match a clients theme, and we do our best to accommodate venues, drop off times, pick up times, and location.
