We recently connected with Stefani Beckerman and have shared our conversation below.
Stefani , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We love heartwarming stories – do you have a heartwarming story from your career to share?
When I was an assistant in entertainment I worked for Marc Gurvitz. He’s the absolute best. If you know him, you know he’s a diamond. He is fancy so he had multiple assistants. I worked with Camille. She was older than me, a former Playboy Bunny, got her career start working for the Gershwins. She claims she saw something in me early, plucked me out of the mailroom and helped me get a big break. Looking back, I do believe she saw me fully and totally lifted me up and I’m very grateful for her. But back then, she could rub me the wrong way. And then I would get fiesty, that would trigger her, and we’d wind up going at it. One day, we REALLLLLY went at it. In the hallway, in front of a bunch of managers, CEO of the company, and all the assistants who sat in a row outside the offices. I don’t even remember why it started. Push led to shove (literally) and I got called to Sharon’s office (i.e HR i.e the Prinicpal of Young Hollywood). I walked in her door and she started hysterically laughing. She was like, “Ummm ok well obviously one of you has to leave and it needs to be you.” I ended my workday at the beach so it turned out okay for me :) The heartwarming part of the story is that Brillstein was a family and it taught me how that can translate to a strong team in business.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
There are a lot of parts to this question! Right now I am Head of Brand & Community for Ozlo Sleep and I do high-level consulting & advising for brand marketing & growth. Hmm, I guess I got into the industry of entrepreneurship because the possibilities and opportunities are endless. There is no box one needs to fit into and it’s so much fun! I stumbled into brand building by way of changing direction many times and it’s become a wonderful outlet for my creativity. I get to help people and companies I believe in exist in the world and be of service to lots of people. I love things that feel good and I love to share that feeling with people. There are so many cool ways to do that when you’re a brand — so many interesting ways to tell a story and communicate effectively with communities. Ultimately, for me it’s all about bringing positive energy together and helping people live happier and healthier lives together.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I don’t know if I had to unlearn a lesson but I definitely have had to rewire many old patterns that caused me to “keep stepping in the same pile of shit” as my cousins would say. I love the journey of growth which is something that makes facing those demons easier. Understanding my critical voice, learning to meet her with compassion and cultivating unconditional self-love has been a game changer.
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
I’ve lived like 9 lives already and I’m an MG (Human Design peeps you know what I’m talking about) so probably not!
