We were lucky to catch up with Rachel Page recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachel, thanks for joining us today. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
We focus on self improvement and self care. Our platform provides unique classes for all shapes and sizes, to be able to add cardio, dance, martial arts and self defense to their daily routine. As well as we have a whole fashion collection that’s super dope. We love fashion from other cultures and diversity is a strong suit I have family all over the world, including in Nigeria, Germany, and France, on my birth mother’s side.
I also have an art degree and worked multiple years in education , fitness, and art companies.
My goal is to help with the body shaming community, to heal the wounds and to take the internalized trauma or lack of love and turn it into something more, we all have insecurities, and we’re all different shapes, shades and sizes, but we are all heavenly sent.
So we should all have opportunities to have amazing fun with working out, dieting and dressing in super nice clothes.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I studied fashion in school and in my free time. I watched fashion shows as a kid, and spent many summers with my grandmother while she sewed and made jewelry for a shop.
I love making my own art and designing my own clothes.
I feel like adding my style and creativity is super important on how much clothing can make a person feel good about themselves, not just for the look but for how they feel about themselves in the eye of business and culture.
I love Nigerian art and Tokyo style art.
A lot of my business deals with body confidence and helping educate people about how fun exercising can be when you find a regimen that you connect with.
I love dance so I try to I mplement a lot of dance in any workout I do.
Or have a fun music playlist that really feels like I’m having a blast at the beach or hanging with friends when I workout.
I offer nutrition and fitness classes.
I am proud that I finally found what I was meant to do, the accomplishment of designing a website going to college and building a business during the pandemic of 2020 really makes me feel like I have made my mark in this world regardless of sales I’m proud to be a business owner promoting self care.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
My business partner is my fiancé. We met on a school trip.
We’ve been together ever since, after we introduced the idea of being partners, I told him about my business idea, we both studied graphics, he helped me build my logo, then we both invested time into recording our work out videos, taking online courses for meal plans, working on ourselves individually to make sure we were not too busy or maintaining healthy communication about different things we wanted to bring to the company. We finally had our business open a year after we met. And we have been running the company together ever since.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Google ads, and YouTube advertisements had really played a big role in the beginning, since we started out business at the beginning of the pandemic, we had a lot of things stacked against us, we also had a newborn after our business was up and running so we had to manage our first child, our first business together, and our day jobs to pay the bills as well as the pandemic. So yeah it wasn’t easy but hopefully those who use social media can be in a better position to start a business, and when you commit you will see eventually others take interest in your company. Make sure what you’re showing is what you want others to see, whether your posting pictures of soap on social media, or posting videos on cooking and recipes whatever you are trying to accomplish make sure you record as much moments as you can, your audience will connect with you when you’re being honest and yourself.
