We were lucky to catch up with Kailyn J. Botts recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kailyn J. , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
I started my journey in the world of makeup by simply enjoying makeup videos online. I found myself drawn to makeup tutorials on YouTube, and that’s where my passion began. I started practicing different techniques on myself, and over time, I became my own walking billboard, showcasing my evolving skills.
It wasn’t long before family and friends started noticing my talent and would come to me for makeup services. This positive feedback and their trust in my skills encouraged me to take things a step further. I decided to create an Instagram account to share my work and connect with a wider audience.
As I continued to share my makeup artistry on social media, more friends and acquaintances began to reach out, and I started receiving inquiries for makeup services. The turning point was when I received my first real inquiry to work with 7 models in a single day. This experience was both exhilarating and challenging, and it marked the beginning of my professional makeup artist journey.
From that point on, my career as a freelancer has been taking off, and I’ve been dedicated to polishing my skills, staying updated with the latest trends, and providing exceptional makeup services to my clients. I’m truly grateful for the journey that started with a simple passion for makeup content and has led me to where I am today.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My brand began as a result of a creative and inquisitive mindset, driven by the desire to conquer what I saw missing in the beauty industry. I firmly believed that I could accomplish and fulfill what pop culture was demanding – a fresh perspective and an authentic approach to enhancing beauty.
I started my journey with relentless practice and unwavering dedication to my craft. It was through these countless hours of hard work that I began to realize my vision and bring it to life. This marked the inception of ‘Beauty by Jalei,’ a brand with a mission to enhance the inner beauty of our skin.
As my brand continues to evolve, I remain committed to my initial goal of redefining beauty standards and making a positive impact in the industry. It’s a journey of growth and innovation, and I’m excited to see where ‘Beauty by Jalei’ will go in the future.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been a combination of authenticity and relationship building. I don’t have a specific formula, but I’ve found success in trusting the vibrant and skillful demonstration of my craft, using my own face as a canvas to showcase my makeup artistry. By doing so, I’ve been able to establish a genuine connection with potential clients.
I’ve also been intentional about creating and nurturing relationships within the beauty industry. I focus on delivering quality service rather than competing solely on price. This approach ensures that I provide services that are not only desired but also needed by many.
Furthermore, the support of family and friends has been invaluable in helping me grow my brand. Social media has played a significant role in expanding my reach and connecting with a broader audience. It’s been a journey, and while I initially hesitated, I’ve allowed my brand to blossom, and it’s been incredibly rewarding to see its growth over time.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of clientele for me has undoubtedly been word of mouth. There’s something incredibly powerful and authentic about clients recommending my services to their friends, family, and colleagues. It’s a testament to the quality of work and the positive experiences they’ve had with me. This organic form of marketing has consistently brought new clients into my business and allowed it to thrive.
