We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Byrd StayLow a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Byrd StayLow , thanks for joining us today. One of our favorite things to brainstorm about with friends who’ve built something entrepreneurial is what they would do differently if they were to start over today. Surely, there are things you’ve learned that would allow you to do it over faster, more efficiently. We’d love to hear how you would go about setting things up if you were starting over today, knowing everything that you already know.
I would of taken it more serious a long time ago. The talent was always there but I treated it more like a hobby back then. It was just something I did for fun even though I was kind of known for it. I would of captured everything too, we been could of went viral lol
Byrd StayLow , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve always been a fan of music and been around music in my life. My artist name just came from my child hood nickname which was c – bird. Over the years the c was dropped and the I was changed to a Y. I added the StayLow a few years ago and the rest is history! I always mad em sucks but was more of a hobby back then. I went through different phases going to different studios like “The Attiq” which was very essential to my development. Even being apart of different music groups like wavegang which was a huge part of my career. In 2016 I started really taking it serious and decided I’d give it my all. I’m proud of how far I’ve come and how I really perfected my craft!
How’d you meet your business partner?
Me and my brother A Kruse met in 6th at Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School. He always says we met at lunch tryna find somewhere to sit lol. I honestly don’t remember exactly I just know he was the first friend I met who always made music just like me. At 10/11 Years old, there weren’t to many people who I could connect with in that way. We started writing songs together and he’s been my brother every since. We’ve been performing , traveling together and working on a collaborative album as well.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Well now I have a manager , a team, and a ton of people in my corner who believe in me. It wasn’t always like this though. I remember going to shows by myself driving hrs away just for a chance to e form and showcase my talent. I’m 2016 when I decide I was going to go hard I made a decision to not let anyone or anything hood me back! I remember going to a show in Brockton Mass 2 hrs away and having a really good performance. I met Ricky bats that night and DJ envy. Made some real move that night something that wouldn’t have happened if I wouldn’t have went to that show. I almost didn’t go because I had no to come with me.
