We recently connected with Kira Adams and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kira thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
Knowing what I know now, I do wish I had started researching self-publishing even a few years prior to when I did. It would have given me more time to push out my books to a booming audience that would eat them up and also write a big enough backlist of books to be able to rapid release. The reason I had so much success in the beginning of my career was because I had a handful of books already written just waiting to be published. It took the wait time out of it.

Kira, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have been writing my entire life, but back in the 2000s, maybe closer to around 2009, I discovered a website called Wattpad where basically writers and aspiring writers could come together on an online platform and reach the same audience. This platform kicked off a lot of authors careers as well. One of my books I shared on Wattpad, Pieces of Me garnered over 50,000 reads and people were invested in not only my characters but also my lyrics I weaved throughout every chapter. I’m a singer-songwriter so this felt like the best of both worlds to me.
I’ve since gone on to release three different series and 5 standalone novels.
When I started writing as Kira Adams, I wanted to tackle the real life, the nitty, gritty and honestly sometimes unpretty. I think flawed people are so beautiful and dimensional. Just because you’re broken doesn’t mean you don’t deserve love. I want people to see themselves in my characters and their decisions.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
This one is one I’m having to remind myself on a daily. I have my OG’s – my day 1 fans and they know who they are. They have been there since 2013/2014 and some have every Kira Adams book ever written. Throughout the years, I’ve always tried to make my tribe feel special. Creating a Facebook group where I can share news of my work and they can interact with me and enter giveaways was one. Sending care packages for holidays and birthdays was another. And honestly, just keeping up with their personal life. We all have our own busy lives, but doing pulse checks every so often to let them know they are not forgotten.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Back in 2015, I was working such long days at my full-time job, my writing fell by the wayside. So much so that I stopped focusing on it entirely for over 5 years. My biggest fans and readers damn near forgot about me by the time I made my re-entry. This was a big setback for me in terms of keeping traction going with my books and the buzz of my readers wanting to know what happens next. I’ve been slowly digging my myself out of the hole ever since but life can be life-ing. I just try to remember it’s not a race, it’s a marathon.
