We recently connected with Molly Voigt and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Molly thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
I started as a solo esthetician and lash artist, so originally my business name was Molly Esthetics. As I grew, I gained one employee and changed my business name to ME skin and Lash. From there I kept growing and I wanted to keep the ME, so I was like what about ” All About ME’ I felt like that was perfect for the beauty industry, as what we do is all for them to feel beautiful!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I started as an esthetician in a full service salon in Boulder, Colorado. When I moved to Fort Collins, I eventually got my own little space doing lashes and skincare. I received my education certificate to train lashes in Northern CO, so I needed a bigger space. That is when All About Me Lashes was created! My lash salon has been around with employees for 5 years now, we have developed and manufacture our own lash line, train in lashes, and offer all lash services in our salon. We really try to focus on the health and safety of your natural lashes and are all about education! All of our lash artists have been trained by myself, and I take pride in the quality of work we provide as well as the products we create! I am also, as of recently the new owner of a natural nail salon in Old Town Fort Collins, as well!
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
I think the best advice for managing a team would be to put yourself in their shoes. You have to have a mentality that if your employees are happy, and making money, then your business is happy and making money. The last thing you want is a ton of turnover. Too often I hear of owners who solely only care about the business and what benefits them. I think there is a huge balance that one has to have. Managing people is honestly one of my hardest challenges, I take a lot of things personal and I am a big people pleaser. But sometimes you have to disconnect from that and realize your employees need to do what’s best for them as well. Keeping a friendly relationship and caring about your employees and their work/life balance is a huge thing that more owners or managers need to show.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
A couple years ago I actually developed a severe allergy to the fumes of the adhesive that we use for lashing. This lead me to not being able to work with it anymore. I tried everything, different masks, different adhesives, fume extractors, nothing worked. From there, I had to decide to change careers or if I wanted to stay in the industry I would have to solely run and operate the salon and not take clients anymore. I can’t tell you how hard this was for me, as I LOVE lashing. It really is my passion, and I was devastated it was taken away from me. I am still not over it, and wish I could lash again, but I am certain that being a salon owner is where I was suppose to be. So here we are!
