We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Roberto Alvarez-Galloso. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Roberto below.
Roberto, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
I am hoping to be remembered as a person who helped the Independent Artists [Actress, Singer / Songwriter] achieve the
publicity they deserved. This [legacy] is what makes me happy and helpful because the Independent Artist
[Actress, Singer-Songwriter] is marginalized in a society where few people appreciate what is great music.
There was one Singer Songwriter and Actress that I knew personally who was not receiving the publicity she deserved for
her music [while performing in public or recording CDs]. She was facing heavy competition from other artists who were
established as well as Independents secondary to the promotions they received from established agencies.
I interviewed her in my video blog [as well as in writing] about her career [acting and music] in the hope that she [and
her art] would receive exposure. The result was that the singer songwriter / actress received offers to participate as an
actress and singer in music videos, movies and videos by Independent [as well as Established] Film Directors and
Producers.
At the same time, the Singer Songwriter Actress was able to sign with an Independent Music Label and a Managerial
Agency to represent her. It is this success story that makes me feel whole as a person because someone is
successful in the arts and is able to broaden their horizons.
She [the Actress, Singer / Songwriter] thanked me for helping her in her career to the point that the story of her success
was shared throughout [her] community of artists. If you want to leave a legacy for a person [especially in what you love],
leave one of kindness and helping others as it goes a long way and the return is gratifying in a personal way.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
As A US Latin [Cuba] who was born in Ohio and has lived in different parts of the world, I wanted to help people especially
the artists especially at a time when the arts were [and still are] monopolized by the big multinational corporations. It was a
desire to provide an alternative model in artistic news that lead me to start El Noticiero RCAG [in Spanish] and then
[eventually] The AG News Show [in English] in the Summer of 2006.
The purpose was to help others in two languages and worlds [Spanish and English]. The ability to unify at a time of division.
During this period, I also free lanced for AMI Radio [Anna Maria Island Radio] as a Soccer [one of my favorite sports]
Reporter and host of a show dedicated to Independent Rock and Country Music called the Americana Bistro Grill [of which I
was the founder]. At that time, we started helping the artists that were not receiving the publicity deserved..
I am proud that our programs
are an alternative to the established media because the people served
are the Independent Artists who would receive little or no publicity even though they are talented. Many are content that
their work receives the recognition deserved in an era where there are few voices and those who do have the
advantage.
This is what makes me happy to help and why Noticiero RCAG, The AG News Show and The Americana Bistro Grill Show
with Dr. Rob [a fictional character invented by Roberto Alvarez-Galloso] exist.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
After establishing El Noticiero RCAG – The AG News Show [in 2006], there was a need for social media yet everything was at
an infant stage. After many trial and errors of different platforms, I settled on WordPress and You Tube in the year 2007.
There was exponential growth because there were few people in Social Media in the beginning of the 21st Century
compared to 2023. We grew our audiences secondary to the fact that we catered to their tastes in art, sports, and news in
an alternative fashion [although we remained with the artists, and sports].
The avoidance of controversial topics helped a lot since people are always bombarded with the negative and all that is
associated with it. The adage of treat others as you want to be treated served for us to go a long way at a time when
many video and written blogs did not survive the formative years of the cybernetic age. The same applies to taking risks.
My advice to those who are starting the social media presence is the following :
1. Please use your social media responsibly by promoting your product and business in a professional manner
2. Treat your customers as you want to be treated since Social Media tends to be fickle with their audience. One moment
you are the greatest story to occur followed by converting into a relic of the past.
3. Do not be afraid to take risks and accept the blame for failure. This is the way to jump back into success.
4. Avoid controversial topics that can result in losing audiences as well as antagonizing the social media corporations.
Many do not want controversies since they want to enjoy life. The Social Media Corporations have enough problems
of their own to deal with a blogger, writer, or influencer who loves controversy.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
When a person treats others as they want to be treated and is able to make good on his or her promise to a reader,
customer, or fellow writers, bloggers, and artists, their reputation grows as they are deemed to be trustworthy. This is
necessary at a time when such qualities are lacking in today’s world.
