Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Francesca Tarantino. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Francesca thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Any thoughts about whether to ask friends and family to support your business. What’s okay in your view?
First let me start by saying, I wouldn’t be here without the support of my family. My mom, dad, and brother have been tremendous in helping me achieve my goals. ! I also have great support from my distant relatives who are able to show me their support on social media and they’ll get to read this article which is cool! My friends have been amazing! I find that I don’t have to really ask my true friends for their support.. I’m really grateful that they come to my shows, share my social media posts, and share my music. They have made it easy for me which I know isn’t always the case.
Being in high school and having to promote myself has been something I had to get used to and it has been a little challenging. I have definitely lost some friends who didn’t understand the time, effort, and energy it takes to be an Indie artist.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am an indie pop-rock artist based out of Orlando, Florida. I sing, play acoustic guitar, and also electric guitar which is the most fun! I currently have two released singles. My first single, “My Runaway” was released on January 6th, 2023 and was co-written with my brother, Dominic and my producer, Mike Walker at Dreamwalker Music Evolution (DME Orlando). My second single, “Tragedy” was released May 17th, 2023. It was also co-written with Mike Walker and produced at DME Orlando. I’m really proud of both of those songs as they are something that I created and it’s so cool to hear them playing! Both have reached number one on internet radio and have been played in several countries!
I love playing out live! It’s so fun and so cool to meet people! I cover a bunch of different music from classic rock, pop rock, 90’s rock, today’s hits, and crowd favorites. It’s so awesome when people sing along and clap! I love seeing people having a great time and enjoying the music. It’s also pretty amazing to play songs that I wrote and get good feedback from people!
I think what sets me apart is that I play such a wide variety of songs from Adele to KISS and lots in between! People always tell me they love my mix. I also LOVE playing the electric guitar and I’m most proud of the epic riffs I’m learning. I now perform the entire solo from Hotel California which is definitely not easy. It’s not always perfect but it’s fun and I love seeing people really getting into it!
How did you build your audience on social media?
At first I didn’t want to do it. I was so concerned about what people thought of me and worried about being judged. Then, I was told to stop posting if I was so uncomfortable…and I did for a short while, but realized letting my fears take over was not going to get me anywhere and in today’s music business, you need to promote yourself on social media.
So, I just decided to be me! I started posting consistently; cover songs, new things I was learning, behind the scenes, and funny stuff. I found that not every post has to be perfect! Sometimes I post me learning something and it’s not good and that’s OK! I think it’s so important to be real and be authentic! That’s what people want to see, not the polished fake stuff.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Oh this is a great question! Performing live is never without issues.
I had in my head that it always would go smoothly, but quickly found out that is rarely the case.
I’ve forgotten things at home, missed chords and lyrics, and hit the wrong button on my looper pedal. One time my guitar strap fell off mid song and took my guitar with it!! I think I’ve learned now that no matter what happens to keep going and have fun. It’s ok to laugh at yourself.
