We recently connected with Pam Briordy and have shared our conversation below.
Pam, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
I think about it every day! Sometimes, it’s easier to just work a typical 9 to 5, where you can just go home at the end of the day and forget about it all. However, being a business owner is much more fulfilling than any other job I’ve ever had. I (along with my husband) have complete control on what we do as a business and have no one to answer to except ourselves. I like having that control. I don’t have the luxury anymore of complaining about what the “higher ups” are doing and why they’re making the decisions they are. It’s a lot more stressful, that is, being a decision maker, but I wouldn’t change it now.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My husband and I own a small brewery in Jasper, Georgia. He was working at another brewery and wanted to break out on his own. I was working as a mental health therapist and was honestly burnt out. We were both just tired of doing the same thing. Creativity is the impetus for our brewery. The beers constantly rotate and I make chalk board signs featuring each one. We also work behind the bar, so it is truly a family business. We wanted to be a part of the downtown Jasper area since we live here and want to see it thrive. We have weekly events and are a part of larger events with downtown. This past year, we rented the basement of our building out to another business that offers wine, cider, mead, and seltzer. Basically, any beverage that you could want is available at our building.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I was so obsessed with social media followers when we first started! I will say that we have grown organically. I used to make it a point to post once a day on all platforms. Now, I have relaxed a bit, but I still try to post consistently with relevant content. It’s not always easy to take the time to take pictures when you are busy. However, real content gets more exposure than say, a Canva template.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Word of mouth is strong in the brewing industry. People will travel for good beer and a good experience. That being said, the best source of new clients are our regular customers. We are so thankful to have made so many new friends in the brewery. Small business ownership can be lonely, but our customers make the difference.
