We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ellina Volianski a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Ellina, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?

I had the idea of ​​making lampshades years ago. But something very special was missing, which didn’t give me the impetus to start.
We had renovated our house a few years ago and my 3 daughters needed something very special for their rooms. A nice lampshade, for example. In the shops everyone looked the same and boring. Then I had the idea to create something beautiful myself. I have ideas and tried out the material. At some point the lampshade was created that I now sell worldwide.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I am 39 years old. Born in Kiev, Ukraine. Live in Germany since 1996.
I learned dental technology. Skill and craftsmanship are part of me. I need concentration and precision in my work. My lampshades have to be perfect. I’m strict with myself when it comes to quality. I sell my lampshades worldwide and that makes me very happy!

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?

I make my lampshades with heart and soul. Every work is unique, one of a kind. There is no other that could be the same. My customers love my lampshades. It makes me very happy to see that my work brings joy.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?

My goal is to continue to develop my abilities. Try out a lot of new designs and create a lot. I enjoy my work very much.
