We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Megan Bernard a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Megan , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So, what do you think about family businesses? Would you want your children or other family members to one day join your business?
Family business can and will work with the right individuals. I would recommend family businesses to those able to let the start of the work day signify the separation between family matters and business. For my family, cooking has always been a bonding event and a way to connect with each other. The kitchen is where a lot of conversations take place and traditions are passed down. I would absolutely hire my child to be a part of our team. As a parent, we are suppose to provide opportunities for our kids and prepare them for the real world. The ability to cook is a skill that everyone should possess, as it allows for independence. Additionally, because we are a family business, our team is comprised of individuals who grew up learning how to cook, teaching others to cook, and supporting each other as we grow together as chefs. Being included in the family business would provide children with a great opportunity to learn and grow from the ground up as individuals.
Megan , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started print and commercial modeling at a young age. Hooters, Maxim, Wild Turkey, Dekt Skateboard and several others brands have served as my building blocks towards success. It also provided a helpful hand at growing a following on social platforms. Which explains why Goodness Gracious LLC was a happy accident! My grandmother and I were in the kitchen putting together Christmas gifts for my son’s teachers. I posted a few pictures online and from there, Goodness Gracious was born. Years of Mawmaw collecting family recipes and me building up a stature has provided opportunities for success.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Years of work through modeling and promotional advertising has helped me build an online presence. Being selective but open to the right opportunity has helped me stay relevant in the social media world as it evolves. The best advice I would give a person just starting to build their following would be to stay consistent. Don’t feel bad about promoting your work. Social Media is a free advertising market. Use it to your advantage.
How’d you meet your business partner?
I am fortunate to have my business partner as my Grandmother. This business wouldn’t exist without her presence. She is the backbone of the company. She’s always loved to entertain, cook and throw a party. We’re like Cagney and Lacey!
