We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Cindy Thompson – Forbes a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Cindy , thanks for joining us today. How do you think about vacations as a business owner? Do you take them and if so, how? If you don’t, why not?

As a business owner, I usually take a two week’s vacation every year. A few times I’ve closed the business completely mainly because I work alone and do not have an assistant or anyone who can take on the full responsibility of the business while im away. My advice to a buddy entrepreneur or a business owner is, schedule breaks within the year to give yourself time to regroup and strategize your business plan for when you return to work.

Cindy , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

I’ve been a business owner for the past four years while working a full time job. I got into business because I saw that there was a need within my country for my business. The name of my business is Glory Dancewear, we sell liturgical Dancewear such as, overlays, ballet shoes, leotards, skirts, pants and face paint. I am most proud of the fact that our customers are always pleased with our customer service and products.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?

I would say the best source of new clients would be Social Media Marketing and referrals

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?

During covid 19, the entire world had to shut down and we had to relearn how to operate in business. During this time I thought that my business would not survive because there wasn’t anymore ballet recitals or church events. When the country began to slowly reopen I had to encourage myself and I began to advertise and strategize my business again. I offered mobile services where customers didn’t have to leave the comfort of their homes. Three years later I’m still offering this effective service.
