We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Toya Danielle Yarbrough LPN, CCM a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Toya Danielle thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear the story behind how you got your first job in field that you currently practice in.
The first job that I had in my industry was as a pediatric school nurse for a preschool/ headstart program. I was a new graduate and there weren’t very many jobs out there for new grads at the time.
I had originally attended a Registered Nurse program for 5 years and being a Licensed Practical Nurse was not in my personal plan.
However, I was a mother of a newborn and a 4 year old, that coupled with my ADHD diagnosis test taking was not my strong suit. After a hard fight I had become a LPN as an alternative and to be honest I was a little bitter about it.
It was hard watching all of my friends and classmates move on without me.
But like I said, I was a Mom, so I had to suck it up for my kids.
I just didn’t know how great sucking it up would turn out to be.
In school I had two wishes. NO geriatrics or pediatrics so when I saw the job opening I was like no way.
But I had experience working with kids and my Grandma knew the principle of the school.
After the interview I got the call with the job offer. I couldn’t believe it I was thrilled. I was officially a nurse, even if it was in pediatrics.
Thankfully that position allowed me to grow and create wellness programs for the kids as well as the parents. I held line dancing classes, asthma and allergy education classes, nutrition classes and so much more.
Looking back I know that I ended up exactly where I needed to be to grow as the business owner I am today. I would not change a thing.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

My personal journey has been one filled with self-discovery, growth, and a commitment to making a difference. As a Licensed Practical Nurse, I had the privilege of witnessing firsthand the physical and emotional toll that stress and burnout can take on individuals. It was during this time that I realized my calling extended beyond the realm of traditional healthcare. I wanted to create a space where women could heal, thrive, and find inner peace in all aspects of their lives.
With this vision in mind, I founded Tricky Royalty Wellness, a beautiful company that embraces the power of holistic well-being. Through one-on-one coaching, we delve into the unique needs, challenges, and goals of our clients. We work together to identify and overcome self-limiting beliefs, develop actionable strategies, and cultivate the resilience necessary to thrive in both personal and professional spheres.
At Tricky Royalty Wellness, knowledge and practical skills are seen as vital tools for personal growth. That’s why we offer a variety of classes that equip women with the knowledge and resources they need to navigate life’s challenges confidently. One of the cornerstones of Tricky Royalty Wellness is our collection of non-toxic candles. Handcrafted with love and care, these candles serve as a symbol of our commitment to creating a safe and peaceful environment. The soothing aromas they emit fill the air, encouraging relaxation, and providing a sanctuary for women to find solace and reconnect with themselves.
As I reflect on my journey, I am filled with a profound sense of purpose and fulfillment. Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
I think that finding a Business Mentor has been huge for my business. She has helped me grow my thinking, she keeps me on goal, and holds me accountable to myself and my business.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your firm or practice?
Like many businesses owners my initial capital came from bootstrapping. I held a 9-5 and any extra pennies I had went towards growing my business.
