Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Roosevelt BlackRose Taylor. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Roosevelt BlackRose , thanks for joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
One of my most meaningful projects. To have three murals in the historical Minton’s play house the oldest jazz lounge in New York city which is located in my home town of harlem nyc . Iam the second artist in its history to have art in there .

Iam Roosevelt BlackRose Taylor a true leader in The Harlem diaspora. The culture of African descents that were born in harlem an created new artistic sub cultures in harlem ,through music like bebop , new Jack swing , visual art ,dance fashion and language or lingo that derives from harlem and has had a world wide influence , the harlem diaspora is here to stay . From the Renaissance of Harlem the old and new history shall be told through my art”
Roosevelt ‘Black Rose’ Taylor is a Master Painter who is a versatile, highly skilled Artist who is gifted in the instruction of various mediums of art/art design. He is the owner of Soul Artistic Trends Art Company and founder/creator of the Harlem Art Club.
He was recently featured in the February issue of Ebony magazine as one of the three top artists to watch at the 15th Annual Harlem Fine Arts show. This is his 15th year anniversary as an Artist and business owner.
Born, raised, and currently residing in Harlem, New York, Black Rose has been developing, defining, and perfecting his craft since he was a young child. The diversity of his work is evidence in the various ways he tailors his creations to meet his client’s needs. Black Rose’s customized commissioned masterpieces are visible throughout Harlem and prominently displayed as permanent features in popular and historical landmarks through-out New York City. His work has also been displayed at various gallery exhibitions/various venues and has been acquired by private collectors. He has been recognized for the meticulous way he captures the essence and aura of the subjects he paints.
Black Rose is widely recognized, and highly regarded, as a member of the “new” Harlem Renaissance. He is a reputable Master Painter whose work produces a significant contribution to the renewed cultural richness of contemporary Harlem. Roosevelt ‘Black Rose’ Taylor is the founder of the Harlem Art Club which offers various methods of exposure to art for the children in Harlem at no fee. At the Harlem Art Club, he teaches young people how to ‘tap into’ their artistic ability to produce personalized pieces of art.
As a testament to his dedication to the rebirth of his hometown, Black Rose designed and created a masterpiece as a gift for the legendary clothing designer, Dapper Dan. The innovative portrait was presented to honor Dapper Dan’s collaboration with the Fashion House, Gucci. His work has been featured on Good Morning America , a documentary titled “Dear New York”, by the John A. Reisenbach Foundation, two major cable network shows; Run the World (featured on STARZ) and Harlem (featured on Prime Video). His magazine features/mentions: Ebony magazine, The Amsterdam News, Niji magazine, South Carolina Voyager, Princeton magazine, Shanken News Daily, Brewbound news and Harlem World magazine.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most , rewarding part of being a creative is being able to share my creative inspiration and knowledge,with kids in my neighborhood and give them a positive outlet to be free and express there feelings through there art .
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My mission is to expose as many kids to art as possible. Society is stripping the educational system of creative process music dance are, etc. and my goal is to keep it alive and be a beacon of hope.
