We were lucky to catch up with Stormie Anderson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Stormie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear the backstory of how you established your own practice.
Education about cosmetic surgery is very limited. There are numerous misconceptions and false news about the proper after-care procedures and I learned this rather quickly when it came to my surgery. After months of dedication to my own progress, House of Contour was born. We started off in a single room offering services in lymphatic drainage, body contouring and educating women on the post-op process and how they can get their desired results. When you are doing something you are passionate about, the fear of failing and doubting if you are good enough comes across your mind once or twice. It was no different when it came to me and starting House of Contour. As well as joining the spa industry in a predominantly white field dawned on me too but looking back on it, my feelings and hesitations were valid but in the same breath I didn’t know what the future holds. A lesson young professionals should consider when starting something new is don’t count yourself out. Put your all into it and deeply believe you can do it.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am Stormie Anderson, a registered nurse with 14 years of medical experience in ICU, long-term acute and wound care. I am also the owner of the #1 Medspa in the Metro Detroit area that aims to help people regain their confidence using non-invasive procedures. The services I render include one of the leading sellers in my spa such as the weight loss program with a proven success rate, liquid lipo shots which permanently dissolve fat of your desired area and IV Hydration which helps make sure you replenish your required vitamins. We also offer free health services such as free B12 injections, PH level checks and blood pressure checks. House of Contour takes pride in providing an experience to every customer. We recognize each individual has a specific situation so we make sure we tailor their experience with us in a unique way while still educating them. Our clients feel a sense of sincerity and devotion which leaves them satisfied every time. Aside from owning a medspa, I am a mentor to fellow spa professionals where I extend my knowledge and help them learn techniques and services through the courses I offer if someone is interested in becoming a part of the beauty and aesthetic industry.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
When I think of this question two words come to mind, consistency and distinctive. I say distinctive because you have to separate yourself from others in the same field. You have to not only be different in the services and products you offer but in how you brand and market yourself. Originality goes a long way in the beauty and aesthetic industry because there’s a lot of repetitive things that are circulating. When thinking about starting a career in this field, think to what can you offer that few people can. Consistency is also important because this industry is not for everyone. It’s a great feeling to make people feel beautiful and see the confidence come back into their eyes but when business is not going your way and clients are not returning then it can be discouraging. As a business owner you have to continuously make your business or practice a priority and give it your all everyday because if you don’t then your business with suffer
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Exposure has been the main emphasis of our marketing strategy at House of Contour. You have to constantly think about how to bring brand awareness to your business and effectively. Things will be trial and error until you start to see trends in your target audience as they engage with tactics you put in place. Some advice I have is don’t keep implementing the same strategies if you see that they aren’t beneficial to you, because your wasting time using something that doesn’t work. It’s ok to go back to the drawing board and find something that works. When it comes to gaining exposure with your target audience, you have to think about how they think and the types of events or places they go to so you can market yourself at those places.
